Douglass wouldn't have recognized the current state of black American "culture". Sad.
He certainly expressed himself well. Few blacks today could come close. Thomas Sowell, Clarence Thomas and C Rice could. Few could even comprehend what he said.

Since the majority of African Americans work and are law abiding, that would be the culture, if there is one at all.

Blacks,like strong safety, will never be more than second class citizens until they drop the oppressed victim bs and do what every other race/group has done in the past. What did those groups do? Well, here in the US they assimilated, learned the language and worked their arses off.

Pretty powerful stuff, especially for his time. Most of it really isn't relative in 2015 America but it's good to show past societal dynamics. I hope you're not using this as some sort of rallying cry for today's race relations.

Great and eloquent speech. Yes blacks owned slaves, yes the confederate flag was a battle flag, but I wish some of the civil rights leaders of this generation could put their cause into words as perfectly, instead of exploiting the people they 'say' they are helping.
