Your transparency is admirable.
Losing weight is damn hard for some.
I was super skinny growing up. Ate whatever I wanted until about age 45. At 50 I saw a pic of myself and said “damn I’m now fat!”

I got on weight watchers. Lost 50 pounds and even though I fluctuate a bit I keep it off.

But it’s always a temptation to get that piece of peanut butter pie for dessert.

BMI is not a great method of measuring obesity. Also, this Oreo Dairy Queen Blizzard is delicious.

It's so freaking bad. And absolutely no surprise, given how we eat and how completely wrong most of our doctors, our government, health orgs etc are about nutrition.

Sometimes I think people (outside of places like Boulder) look at me like I'm weird because I'm 6' 175.

Right. Look at the sugar content of almost everything on the shelf. It’s crazy.

"not eating" = actually means being constantly hungry and eating very minimum.

This is certainly not required to maintain healthy weight, dimensions and general fitness. I am never hungry, even when I eat only one meal a day.

I hear that all the time, but I don’t believe it.

Water is cheaper than soft drinks.
Greens, broccoli, cauliflower, and squash isn’t expensive. Chicken is a cheap protein. Dairy products like cheese and yogurt aren’t any more expensive than a bag of chips

No shite. It annoys me when I hear this argument and the argument that it costs the same to cook at home as it does to eat out. That's total BS. Most people could grow some, or a lot, of vegetables in their own yards. Buying vegetables, chicken, pork, dry beans and rice doesn't really break the budget and since we're already paying for tap water it makes no sense to buy nasty sugary drinks. Too many people want to eat shitty food and sit in their arses in the AC than to prepare a healthy meal and then go do something outside. America is killing itself.

Side note, I just spent a week at the beach and it's unreal how fat people are. People that are 30-40 lbs overweight actually look normal compared to the folks that are 100s of lbs overweight.

I took my gf to the nail salon the other day, and nearly every woman would qualify as morbidly obese.

Most large people have genetics that make them gain weight and not be able to lose it

It isn't remotely close. Especially if you are even mildly savvy.

Last night I paid $32 for a tiny piece of meh snapper in a boring sauce and side of turnips. And a $7 can of beer. That's it. Tonight I made a giant mahi mahi filet w an awesome salad w pineapple and peppers and cauliflower loaded mash and 2 bells two hearted beers. Fed wife and me and had at least as much as we ate, leftover. $20.

Also, it took less time to make than it did to drive to restaurant and park. I shop every Wednesday. Hit three stores that are all next to each other. Always have fresh healthy food.

We've just turned into idiotic robots when it comes to food. It's really not difficult.

obesity epidemic

I was at Texas Roadhouse Friday night and holy shite. The average weight in there had to be almost 300. I saw a man as broad as two people.

This is a terrible example.
I’d venture a guess that the argument for eating out being cheaper is based on pizza and value menus, and not snapper and turnips.

I’d also guess people who are obese are not getting that way on fish and turnips.

Nobody likes being fat but once you put the weight on it’s so hard to lose it. Everyday is a struggle
I believe this. BUT if every day is a struggle anyway - why not refocus your struggle on setting a goal to lose a certain number of pounds in a month and then within 2 months, the in 3 months...etc. Measure your weight daily and record it. And change from eating only the foods you love to learning to love (and eating) the foods that love you. Set a rule: no more soft drinks/soda/pop and sweetie drinks. And no more fast foods. You might be pleased with the results you begin seeing.

Damn Louisiana has 4 states that are worse. That's actually a good ranking for us in just about anything.

I honestly thought obesity was going down. There has been such an increase in available knowledge regarding exercise science, diet, supplements, vitamins, genetics, etc. over the past few years. I feel like I know more about how to be healthy than the “professionals” doing this 5 years ago. All of it is free on the internet.

supplements

Are mostly worthless. GNC is selling people a bunch of expensive crap that's probably doing more harm than good.
