I thought the same thing.
English is really becoming a universal language.
I have a few foreigner friends online from all over the world and they are continually learning English/only speak in English.

It's amazing how fast American English is taking over the world. Even most of the British are fans of our accents. It's young people who are effecting the changeover, of course. They see a need for a common language and the benefits it bestows upon businesses and communications.

I've traveled the US extensively but have only been to 6 other countries. The women in Italy blow away the other 5 that I've been to.

Spanish and French have taken major places as being the second and third languages of business, respectively.
There are whole “micro languages” dying out right now due to English. Icelandic, danish, Estonian, and others are seeing their own youth switch completely to English.

American English is making strong inroads in South America, China and even Russia, too. Anywhere young people are allowed the freedoms of the internet, they are choosing to learn American English. In 100 years, its predicted by many linguists that American English will completely replace the British version, the original English, even in England. Such is the power of a dominant culture.

I don’t think there’s anywhere in the world that beats Spain. I just couldn’t believe it: every single city and beach and town just had one jaw dropper after the next.
