I'm sure this will stir up fanboys, but that's one of my favorite features of my Xbox One.
there are ways around this, but i can tell you i'm goddamn sick and tired of being treated like a crimminal because i downloaded the last episode of breaking bad because my DVR cut off the last 15 minutes.
if you didn't have such a shitty product, i wouldn't be downloading stuff illegally i should have access to in the first place....EXCEPT FOR A SHITTY PRODUCT.
am i really shite out of luck if i forgot to record the season premiere of american horror story because i forgot it was starting up again?
i'm a hoodlum for finding it online?
netflix is the only model that makes sense. $4/mo netflix is the only thing that works for me.

When the remote comes out next month, I can almost completely abandon by Charter remote and guide. Only thing I will need it for are to set recordings and access On Demand
I had a problem with my xbone where the TV picture was slightly zoomed. I would not be able to see the entire ticker at the bottom or side of the screen or the entire score if I was watching sports. It would only occur in the TV app. Games, apps like netflix and amazon prime, and the dashboard were all sized correctly. I made every combination of adjustment I was able to and could not fix the problem. Then one day, bam, it was fixed. 3 days later, bam, zoomed screen again. I quit using the xbox pass through and have the cable box wired directly to the receiver now. I've been meaning to try it again since the update a week or two ago.

Nilay Patel (the author) was originally a patent lawyer, but has been covering tech news for the past 6-7 years. He has paid close attention to Internet and Government policy in that time. I think he has a pretty good grasp on what he's talking about.
This is the OT. You're supposed to make sweeping generalizations with no working knowledge of the industry. Haven't you ever seen an Apple thread?

or the signal is so bad that the screen is nothing but artifacts and the audio cuts in and out every 20 or so seconds. Yeah, I had to download the entire season of Doctor Who because it was unwatchable through my cable.

- interrupted by local breaking weather reports during the episode
- your power went out
- obama's speech or the NBA game before the show ran long and you missed half the show
- breaking bad pulls a stunt where it ends 12 minutes after the hour
- rain/wind fade; you lose signal during playback
- you forgot that new show you were planning to watch premeired this week
god forbid any of these things happen. you will get a CEASE AND DESIST letter from comcast for torrenting the latest episode of Super Fun Night.

I received two of those from Cox in one week. Bad luck I guess, since I use torrents all the time. After that, I started using private trackers like IPTorrents, and signed up for Privateinternetaccess.com -- really good deal, by the way, and even better if you suspect your ISP is throttling your netflix or youtube streaming.

When this happens go to power settings, turn off the always on feature, then power of your Xbox. This is the only way to reset the TV app.

Assuming the Internet is like a utility, why are people so passionately against bandwidth caps? If Internet access is just like water, gas, and electricity, shouldn't we expect to pay for usage?
The flip side is that bandwidth these days is almost unlimited. Sure, there are isolated instances of saturation, but for the most part, America is using a fraction of the available bandwidth. In this regard, it's not really a commodity like water or gas (since those things have finite quantities available).

that was rhetorical. i have good sources for my vices. i'm just mad i have to be sneaky to download this stuff and feel like i'm a shoplifter or something.
like colorchange said, is it wrong i wanted a better copy of the TV show to watch than the shitty one comcast served to me last night?

ebay is your friend.
caveats:
1. make sure the seller is legit.
2. make sure the description includes "FOR EXISTING ACCOUNTS" so you can apply this credit to your account. you don't want a nasty surprise when the promo code says its only good for a new member.
i've been doing this for years..surprised more people dont.

Because usage and cost are not currently tied together in any meaningful way. Right now I get charged an extra $10 for every 50 GB I use over 250 GB/month. That extra 50 GB literally costs a fraction of a penny to the ISP. Not to mention the mark up they're already making on the first 250 GB. Not to mention that when I first became a customer I was told I was getting unlimited internet, only to have the policy changed 6 months later.
If they want to install a meter and charge me $0.02/GB like it would cost in a truly open market, then they can go right ahead.
