They've made them do all sorts of stupid bullshite for us already. TPMS, seat belt interlock, catalytic converters... a lot of this shite is (or was) less prevalent or even unknown in Europe and Japan.

don't expect insurance to go down in Louisiana. Rather, they'll raise the rate on vehicles without this system.

They'll raise the rate on everybody to subsidize the claims caused by those without the systems.

My next and last car will be a 55 Chevy. I’m going to drive exactly what I want. If a new car is going to cost me 50k anyway, might as well dump 50k into a car that’s awesome instead of one that looks like an angry toaster.

Yep. DUIs are a huge money maker for the criminal justice system

I agree but I feel you miss a big picture with this sentence alone.

consider money/effort saved instead of wasted on overtime for officers setting up DUI checkpoints or just actively enforcing on the scale of the individual lawbreaker when they can mandate a device that will effectively be a tax collected from every car owner while retaining authority to incidentally collect from law breakers. I can imagine vehicle re-activation fees, fees for servicing/calibration, fees to purchase the device. this could essentially make active enforcement of DUIs vs individuals a small fraction of revenue from the related taxes on the masses.

I think this will essentially allow them to collect more revenue than alcohol DUIs by shifting the cost to the general public and still going for revenue generation for weed and other intoxicants as they become legalized.

In Florida, each county clerk of the courts will be begging more money from the state due to loss of money too.

During our faux shutdown last March/April (2020) - they lost so much projected money bc the traffic infractions were way down

similar reference to my previous post but scale it waaaaaaaaaaaay down to $100 every 12 months from 100% of drivers vs 10k for 1/121 drivers per year charged with DUI. they now automatically collect a shitload more money annually without any effort/money expenditure while still being able to charge DUIs for other intoxicants.

Glad I escaped college before that shite. Not saying it was right. But I'd have been sleeping in my single cab truck a fair bit.

Should we institute this in voting booths as well?
