This is what I think "learning styles" boils down to really, motivation and engagement. You can't learn something if you're not fully engaged. For some, they may lack the motivation to read passages from a text book over and over, or listen to a professor drone on for an hour, and thus aren't fully engaged in the material and will not retain the information or understanding of that information. They then in turn think they can't learn from "just reading" when in fact they probably could if they truly tried.

It's also a responsibility/accountability problem. We tell kids that they're having trouble learning because the initial presentation isn't tailored to their "learning style." Kids start out blaming their problems on someone else, and this is encouraged by their parents and teachers.

The truth is that in the real world you're not always going to get information the way you want it. It doesn't matter. Take the information you're given and put the time in to learn it.

I can learn in 5 minutes with my hands what takes you 8hrs to teach (and I most probably won't remember it). Words and PowerPoints do nothing for me

Lectures, videos, audio books, power points, are all useless to me, if its in a book I can absorb it with no problem. I snoozed through lectures in college, and taught myself from the texts. Sitting in a class was a waste of time for me, I tried to seek out teachers that didn't care about attendance.

True, but the idea that we don't have a particular way of learning that benefits us the most is wrong.

The problem is people use “style” as a shield for just not being as smart as they view themselves or their kids.

The people that did this study are retarded. And I mean that literally. Pecker fits in there as well

Results arent linked to learning styles, motivation is

However, using that to conclude there arent learning styles is only something a non parent could be dumb enough to do
