Ask the IT guy at your company what he thinks of Net Neutrality and even the most ardent conservative IT professional will disagree with the Trump Admin on this one.

If Entergy announced a policy that Jefferson parish residents will have their power shutoff at peak times to give more capacity to Orleans parish, would you say it is just an opportunity for competition?
Do you think solar energy and battery walls become more popular in the area?

You do realize that wireless internet already exists, right?

For those that don't understand, the cable companies want the consumer to pay a flat rate for internet access. Then, based on your consumption, you pay additional fees. Ex. If you just look at Facebook, then you don't pay any extra. Stream movies and football games, $20 extra a month. Then there is the 1% who do shady shite and pull major data and they would be able to stop them. The problem is each provider will be at liberty to establish their own baselines for what is charged. So if you have one option in your area for an ISP, too bad. Jokes on you.
ETA:
ISPs are also viciously fighting against being labeled a utility. If that happens, then their profit margins will be regulated, and they would be forced to have adequate infrastructure. That is not kosher when you are focused only on profit.

Yes. I mean, they don't have to go through space, but yes they actually do.

Not if there are local rules and regs and/or contracts in place stating that area electricity is to be supplied by Entergy only.

And let's not forget that AT&T is trying to merge with Time Warner now.

Sounds like good business practices from Entergy. So you want to make it illegal for them to make money?

Do you think everyone will be able to afford Solar and Battery walls in that area?
Also, see the Texas laws that the electric companies had put in place requiring a certain % of your electricity come from the Utility company each month
Think the ISP special interest groups in Wash D.C wouldn't try something similar?

So this net neutrality is going to make it a law that internet can only be provided by wired ISPs that currently exist.

Not everyone could afford DSL/High Speed cable when we paid per MB dial up.

The future does not lie with landline ISPs.
1) the best wireless services are inferior to wired, and that will never change. There are consumer level actions which go beyond web surfing and Netflixing
2) it is unlikely to have sufficent frequency bandwith to carry all multi media in urban areas over the air
3) Wireless services are still based on landline ISPs, you fool. How do you think towers get internet access? By magic? Again, loss of net neutrality means it's 100% legal for ISPs to extort traffic. An ISP will have to pay "protection money" to the big companies EVEN IF THEY ARENT DIRECT CUSTOMERS. If any company becomes a threat, wired or not, loss of net neutrality means a company can take targeted actions to undermine their business and make them less of a threat. Oh, and their ability to do this comes from things like the quarter billion the government gave AT&T et al a few years back to boost their infrastructure.
And it isn't a hypothetical.
Netflix has an absolutely massive monthly bill to pay for Internet access at a speed suitable to supply all of their customers.
In addition, they had to make payments to Verizon and AT&T to not arbitrarily stifle their traffic. This is another practice that led the FCC to label major internet providers as common carriers.
That is mafia "protection money" bullshite right there.

The ISPs have already made those deals between themselves. They have agreements with each other to not compete in certain regions.
