Absolutely terrible that the fatal shot was fired by another officer. It’s jmpossible to blame the officer for this event, as the chaotic nature leads to these freak accidents, but I couldn’t imagine knowing I was the one who fatally shot another LEO.

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- The bullet that killed Ventura County Sheriff's Sgt. Ron Helus during November's shooting at the Borderline Bar and Grill in Thousand Oaks was fired by a California Highway Patrol officer.
Helus was hit five times by bullets fired by the shooter, Marine veteran Ian David Long, but he may have been able to survive those injuries, according to the coroner's report. The sixth and fatal bullet, which hit Helus in the chest, was fired by a fellow officer. Helus later died at a hospital.
The 29-year law enforcement veteran was set to retire from the Ventura County Sheriff's Office next year. He was among the first officers through the door at the Borderline when the shooting began November 8 and was shot as he tried to stop the gunman, who killed 11 others in the attack.

Ruh Rooh...If he was the 1st one in the building, how does he get shot by LE?

Could have been a hundred different ways - ricochet, misidentification, trigger happy CHP, etc. etc.

Friendly fire happens a lot in fire fights. It’s terrible, but it happens. Fire fights are chaotic and disorienting. RIP to the fallen officer. I hope the other officer gets the help he needs. Not an easy thing to live with.

True, but this wasn’t a firefight involving dozens or even hundreds of combatants. It was a lone shooter.
Don’t pull the trigger if you are a 100 yards away unless you know for sure who’s the bad guy.

Don’t stare at the sun. Don’t jump off the Mississippi rive bridge. Don’t pee on people.
Any other great advice you want to give?
