Okay I agree you can shorten it considerably if you can break them up. I assumed they had to be done in a single stretch each. I don't see myself breaking an hour unweighted though. Not that I'm competitively in shape or anything.

Agreed.

It's all about finding the right cf coach, box, programming, etc

Normally, Murph is performed using any rep breakdown you desire, as long as you start with a mile and end with a mile.

I can fly through a rep breakdown of 5/10/15. You never get gassed on any movement that way.

Yesterday's 100 push-ups sucked. Once you hit a wall, you're lucky to be able to hit 10 at a time.

I managed 51 hand release push-ups in a minute during Wodapalooza in Miami. It won me an iPhone 6+ case. If I had to do 49 more push-ups, it would have taken me another 3 minutes.

Best post in this thread.

I have been a huge crossfit critic ever since I first discovered it in like 2006, when this weaselly unathletic trainer at my gym showed it to me. I agreed with some of the philosophy and principles, but disagreed with numerous things.

I started doing it last week for a few reasons. I was curious, I got a free membership, and I needed some motivation because working out alone sucks.

I still pretty much feel the same about it. It's a great "workout" and the results speak for themselves, but all my suspicions were true in that it's awfully dangerous for regular people, many trainers don't give proper attention to people who need it, and there is no realm in this universe where I will agree with doing Olympic lifts for time.

All that said I'll continue to do it for the good workouts, but will avoid the shite I don't like.

I agree in general, with maybe an exception for extremely light weights.

You're in a lot better shape than I am. It's amazing how much more difficult it is to do pull ups (which in theory is anaerobic) after jogging a couple miles. Or vice versa.

This is a huge part of it for me. I've said this many times in crossfit bashing threads, but I think it's worth repeating.

I enjoy it because as someone who is not in horrible shape but by no means an expert on fitness, it gives structure and the luxury of not having to think about programming. Someone does all of that work for you, and all you have to do is show up and put in the work.

I also appreciate having a group of people around me that are pushing themselves to be better. It makes me want to keep up with them and therefore makes me work harder than I likely would on my own.

I agree that there are many people who give crossfit a bad name by constantly posting about it on Facebook or whatever form is social media (although on this site I always found irony in the much larger trend anti-crossfit people on this site never shutting up about how crossfit people never shut up about crossfit).

Further, there are probably people who think that crossfit is the best and only way to work out - although for the life of me I've never met one.

I enjoy it, it works for me, and it keeps me from becoming yet another number in the ever-rising population of fatties in our country. If you prefer to maintain your health another way, more power to you. Find whatever keeps you motivated and active, that's all that's important.

Injuries can happen, just like in any other form of exercise. Be smart about it and be safe, and you should be fine. I've yet to have an injury outside of ripping my hands after two years.

tl;dr- it's a slow day at work so I went on a rant.

Any time you have a workout regimen that exploits compulsion you are going to have deaths and injuries. A well-lived life is BALANCED, not COMPULSIVE. If you feel like you are a complete loser because you miss a work out, you have issues. Crossfit may produce fit bodies, but it also puts out way more than it's fair share of insufferable narcissists. If you do Crossfit and have a well- balanced life, my props to you.

I saw Chris Pratt at my gym the other day. He's pretty ripped. Seems to work for me. I don't do competitions, but it's a good workout. It's better than doing nothing, so I don't see the hate on Crossfit if you enjoy it and gets you into fitness.

I agree that it will not fade away. People seem to like the group workout atmosphere.

I think I'm going to do a 1/10 Murph without the vest tonight. That's enough for me.
