They actually now ask you to get the tdap booster again while pregnant to provide immunity prior to birth. I got one 2 years ago and they had me get another while pregnant 3 months ago.

Yeah and I'm sure you were strongly encouraged by work to get the one you got before you were pregnant.

I think pregnant women are the only group they are encouraging to get more than one Tdap as an adult.

That site says

In October 2012, ACIP voted to recommend that pregnant women receive Tdap vaccine during each pregnancy, even if the woman had received Tdap previously

Every 10 years?
Why do some pediatric clinics give 4 and some up to 6? Makes no sense to me. I'm well aware of building immunity, but 6 is beyond excessive and things like that are pushed by pharmaceutical companies.
Why do newborns receive a vaccine for an only blood transferred pathogen? (Hep b). Of course a very important vaccine, but needed at birth? Who's newborns are having sex? Or have blood coughed in their mouths or eyes?

I'm certainly for Vs, but some and the quantity are ridiculous.

Might want to educate yourself some more...

Educate myself on what? The fact that hep b is only caught/trans by an infected persons blood?

You are a nurse, right?

Any parent is welcome to have that discussion more in depth with their pediatrician. You picked that person to be in charge of the care of your child, you should respect their opinion(or why are you bringing your child there??). Many pediatricians are willing to work with parents that have concerns about the immunization schedules, in some cases some can be spaced out. But to think medical professionals are pushing a bunch of shots just because pharm companies are telling them to is kinda ridiculous if you sit and really think about it.

Medical professionals are passionate about vaccinations....because they know they work and know they give these kids an advantage in their health. I know I haven't received money from "big, evil pharm companies" to encourage people to vaccinate their children

I really hope you are trolling now. Did you read the second link? Hep B is not just transmitted by blood.

Research. I get you're hanging onto the bodily fluids part, but it's the infected blood in those fluids. Saliva alone w/o blood particles won't do anything.

plenty more if needed so you don't spread wrong medical info..

It's not silly at all. There are ridiculous amounts of crap that are shoved down kids and adults throats that are absolutely unnecessary or excessive. And then there are numerous ones that are needed but they're going to give an unnecessary quantity is doses. Why? $.
Honestly, it's silly to think otherwise.

How much do you think a pediatrician or a nurse get paid for a vaccination? This weird conspiracy theory bullshite is mind boggling. There aren't big bad evil people in lab coats sitting in a back room somewhere trying to figure out how to frick up little kids for an extra buck...that's just not how medicine works.

Can you imagine going back in time and telling someone from say 200 years ago...

"Hey you know all these diseases that are killing people now? Well in the future there will be a way to prevent you or your child from ever getting them. And people will refuse it because they think it's all an evil plot to make more money."

A nurse get paid? Lol Uh, no. It's called owners and the doctors in a partnership. To think all doctors and clinic owners are impartial is beyond laughable. Medicine is a business to a shite load of these companies, nothing more. But hey, if it warms your heart that you think they care.

Well we clearly disagree on some things but at least you aren't some nutjob antivaxxer

What are your thoughts on flushots? Beneficial or fall under your "unnecessary" umbrella?

When should it be given?

What it the problem with getting it as soon as possible?

My kid has been bitten in day care multiple times. Twice broke the skin. I'm glad he's had that vaccine.

The answer is very simple...

The age range that a vaccine is given is based purely on the minimal age that the child's immune system can adequately respond to the vaccine as in able to produce the appropriate antibodies.

The age range was never based on the risk factors such as when the person is most likely to exposed to the infection.

Thus, studies showed that a newborn's immune system can respond to the Hep B vaccine, but will not respond to the chicken pox vaccine until 1 year old.

Vaccines are all about prevention, not treatment. Just like a dam protects us from a flood, we would not start to build the dam when the flood waters approaches.

Second point, the number of vaccinations are also not arbitrary.... the number and timing of the booster shots are determine by the amount of antibodies in our bodies. Some antibodies remains with us much longer and some antibodies drop below protection levels much faster.

Your newborn was bitten at daycare??? Kinda inappropriate, iyam.

Also, LN, flu Vs fall under my 'if you're around people daily, get it' umbrella.

Ok, then why would one clinic differ from another in regards to quantity and timing of said boosters? What makes one clinic suggest 33% more of a type of booster when both clinics are, in theory, basing this off of the same research?

Btw, great reply.

Hey we agree on something!

ETA: I actually work with many nurses that strongly oppose the flushot. It is now a requirement at work for us and they are pissed about it. Me, I don't see the big deal and get my flushot each year(going this week to get it...running late this year).
