Both the Daily and Nightly Shows suck it big time these days.
What I have trouble with is the fact that in the case of both shows they obviously handed them off to non-Caucasian hosts as some kind of gesture of progressive racial benevolence. But in insisting that the hosts be "of color" (to a degree; Wilmore's skin tone is whiter than mine), they also set them up for failure, which sets the success rate of what they intended to do BACK instead of making strides in furthering the cause.
To me, it doesn't even seem like it would be that hard to see the failure coming. When they announced Wilmore's gig as host, I didn't even take a beat. I said "That's gonna go down like the Hindenburg". There wasn't a single person I can think of who figured otherwise.
If I didn't know better I would think it was a sabotage job.

Sir/ma'am,, it's ok to be stupid, but, please do some research and quit proving it.
I've asked you to do that on numerous occasions, I'm done.
Have a wonderful crime free life, call the cops or HRC if you need anything..

Yes, an extra day or two and I wouldn't have been able to make my last handgun purchase. You are incredibly ignorant but gun-control advocates are like that.

At some point or another down the road this gun control could save multiple lives.
No, no it won't and you don't have a shred of credible evidence to support your naive, ignorance-based statement.

Just have a feeling you were spoon fed republican propaganda from the time you came out the womb. It's not your fault. It's not your fault. It's not your fault.

Here is a small fact for your naïve, ignorance-based statement.
According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, the background check system has prevented more than 2 million guns from getting into the wrong hands.
Posted on 1/11/16 at 2:36 pm to jlu03
then that is 2 million felonies. How many were prosecuted?
I'll mention it again you do realize that the NICS system was a NRA idea?

If I have to go through a more extensive background check then I'm okay with that. I will still get a gun because my background is clean.
I bet Kennedy thought he was clean too. The idiot said you shouldn't get a gun if you're on the no-fly list.
The fact you can't see the abuse of power and lack of due process in that is baffling.

I'm not pro gun control at all, but can't stand when people re-post shite like this and think its a logical argument
Why isn't it logical? At what point in your chain of reasoning do you begin to cast judgment on the value of one life versus another?
Most importantly, the fact that Obama has armed security shows he finds value in the use of guns to attain personal protection. The failure in logic would be for someone like that to deny others the same.

What's baffling is quite a few people in this thread believe just because something was stated in the Constitution then it should carry on forever. I'm all for bearing arms but sometimes the processes need to be tweaked as technology and the world evolves.

Please tell us what is this secret political agenda that the president has been working on. Is he coming to take your guns? Because if it is, then you better lock them up since you know he is an emperor or king or dictator or communist or marxist or -insert boogey man conservative word here-

I will not jump to the conclusion that a man with two daughters is faking emotion at the thought of the massacre of a room full of 7-year olds.
The man has lied and cried for the past 7 years. Not only that, he's spoken contemptuously about opposing parties, mocked opposing parties on their views, and acted wholly unprofessional on numerous occasions. He's repeatedly proclaimed he'll do what he wants because he has a pen and a phone. He has withheld legislative documents from public view and stated the no-fly list should be a criteria for gun ownership. That's simply an abomination and a trampling on due process and Constitutional rights. By the way, he derided Bush and spent 5 straight years blaming Bush for everything negative that was taking place in Obama's administration, and said Bush was unpatriotic, and whined about the intrusiveness of the Patriot Act. But while in office he's done nothing to limit it or get rid of it. There is no sincerity in Obama. Only manipulation.
Regardless of political affiliation, no one holding elected office should be allowed to stay in office when they advocate writing off due process and similar concepts. If you lose due process, you lose everything.

3. Increase mental health treatment and reporting to the background check system.
What makes you think the gov can do anything effective in the way of mental health treatment? Have you read the stories from the VA?
Who decides what gets reported? And what items get reported? Your whole file? ICD-9 codes? Do you just get red-flagged like the no-fly list, based on someone's whim? Is there a second opinion? What's your recourse if a doc just wants to put a flag and report you? You're aware that the AMA has become a very political organization and leans heavily to the left?
You know what such a move will do? It will concretely persuade hundreds of thousands of people to never go to a mental health clinic. Does that sound healthy to you? What will you say when that happens and suicides increase, homelessness increases, and the overall burden of minor but easily treatable psychological problems becomes a major issue? And don't forget, there will be ripple effects to malpractice litigation & insurance and doctors will be forced to red-flag someone though there's truly no reason to do so, just so they can stay out of the crosshairs at trial. And with Obamacare, what do you think the "standard of care" will become? Refer, report, red-flag.
None of this is paranoia. It's empirically confirmed throughout all of history. Give a government the latitude for abuse and it will most certainly use it. We have to develop better solutions, that's all there is to it.
One last thing, medical errors are the 3rd leading cause of death in the U.S. Do you really want that community deciding on reporting people, particularly given all of the above?

Only about 60% of those rejected were due to felony convictions, drug addiction etc. That means many were wrongly rejected.
How many of these people rejected would have gone on to commit a crime with the weapon? Do you know the answer to that question? Of course not. No one does.
Drunk driving deaths very similar in number to firearm homicides. Why isn't Obama crying about that? Even when counting suicide with a firearm, motorvehicle and poisoning account for more deaths each year than firearms. So why all the focus on firearms?

That sounds really nice until you start going off the rails on specifics of how these 'tweaks' would be carried out.
But, since you believe the items in the Constitution aren't really that durable, I suppose you'd be OK if a POTUS decided to remove women from voting or wanted extra requirements on women voters, but not men. Right? I mean, women make less money and pay less in taxes. They should probably get less of a vote. Would that be an acceptable tweak for you?

He doesn't have to have a secret agenda to be a fool and to endorse the usurpation of due process. Being a fool is enough for people to be concerned. But nice try in your attempt to make everyone that is pro-gun out as paranoid. And, if he does have an agenda, that can be thwarted to by simply addressing the idiocy of his words and deeds.

Stricter gun control laws could save a few lives here and there, but are those lives enough to offset the millions of people that would have their rights stepped on be creating new regulations?

What the frick are you talking about?? Way to take my point and spin it in a completely different direction. The 15th and 19th amendments were great additions to the Constitution.
