I don't really know what this means, but I am sure there are more. Seems to be an open-ended statement
Juneau is about 3200 sq miles in size, and it has a 1500 sq mile ice field that we share with BC. Juneau city/borough shares a border with BC.

Juneau is also the only state capital that is not accessible my car. Boat or plane only.

Yeah, we have more miles of hiking trails than actual road...

They've been trying to build a road for 50 years, but I don't think they'll ever do it.

Pierre, South Dakota.

I believe it is the only state where the capital and the state name do not share any letters.

Sounds like the outer loop around Atlanta.

They've had the federal funds to make it happen but environmental reasons have kept the State from moving forward. I'm happy with it as it is.

Here's a short documentary about it The Blue Highway

In other words not enough federal funds for the required payoffs, bribes and maneuvering.

Sorry, but I am a cynic when it comes to govt.

Well, the unions and industry supports the road, almost everyone else doesn't. The town is fairly well split along the issue. It's definitely political.

I’d be happy as well. Despite the high concern for the environment and wilderness around the city, it also creates a more unique vibe and keeps a bunch of tourists from destroying what makes Juneau Juneau.

Have you been to Juneau? Or is this just theory? We get over a million visitors just by cruise ship, the road may open it up for more independent tourism which is great.

The Atlantic Ocean entrance to the Panama Canal sits further west than the Pacific Ocean entrance.

Minnesota has a little peak in their northern border... so I'd say them.

I understand your side and have never been to your neck of the woods but intend on it one day. I like the idea of using the ferry system to see coastal Alaska.

Don’t people utilize the marine highway system to see what makes the inside passage unique? The wildlife... You mentioned a million people visit Juneau every year. That’s great and all but if it is that easily accessible why build the road?

And what are the costs of maintaining the road during the winter? Avalanches... snow.. ice... my guess is the state (or feds) would close it during the winter.

How many cars will it service? I don’t think many people will use it. The intact ecosystem is valuable and shouldn’t be cut into by a road that will hardly be used. However I do believe if It were to ever get built it would be one of the most amazing (and dangerous) drives in the world. And plus the mining... is it still part of the controversy?

I enjoyed the video you shared. I never thought about this being a big of an issue as it really is at a local level.
