Not the Ashton Kucher movie.

Back around 2003 or 4, I was in a band but moved out of state for work. I was still on the mailing list (bands back then didn't have social media so you collected people's email addresses and spammed your newletters and flyers to them). One bored afternoon I get one from the band, and decided to go through all the email addresses to see who all was on there, just out of pure curiosity.

I see a girl I had known in high school, different friend groups but our friend groups had overlapped.

I randomly send her an email, saying something like "Hey, came across your email in the band newsletter, heard you live in Chicago now, how's life going?" Something real generic like that. She responded shortly after.

Fast forward 20 years, we're married with a child.

How much different would my life be if I didn't get curious about that newsletter mailing list, or never sent that simple little email?

Do yall have any stories like this?

I got drunk and messaged a random chick on MySpace. We're married with 2 kids.

I'm reading 225 magazine and it mentions a site called "Baton Rouge Rocks" (does that still exist?).

I go to BRR and one of the posters mentions "this other site I go to", about LSU sports...

Driving on the freeway in northern California about a decade ago and there was a semi that was swerving and just seemed off.

I got a bad feeling and took the next exit when it jack knifed. Cars smashed everywhere and I would have been toast if I had stayed on that road.

A girl moved in next door in college. I had a thing for her and was hanging out a lot. She ended up developing a crush on my roommate. My neighbor brought a friend over one day and the neighbor was chatting up my roommate, so I started talking to her friend. We hit it off immediately, started dating, and ended up together. We've been together for 15 years, married for 10 in January, with 2 kids and 2 great careers. If the neighbor reciprocated, didn't bring her friend, didn't chat up my roommate, etc, my life would have ended up totally differently.

In 2008 I took one extra day off after a vacation and the boss moved me to a different location because of it. Ended up directly leading to a way better job making multiples more a year.

If I was born 4 days later I would’ve been in a different grade.
My life would’ve been pretty different I’m sure.

2014, boss said "Let's go to FL". I did, she didn't. Best thing I have ever done. 2 major hurricanes, no loss of life or property, getting married & completely happy with weekends on the beach.

Back in 2010, I found myself at an orientation day for a clinical track. I saw a woman across the room that caught my eye, the lighting just drew my attention to her. Despite weighing 400+ lbs at the time and having absolutely zero self-confidence, I walked over and introduced myself. 13 years later, I'm over 200 lbs lighter, and she's been my wife for over 5 years. I'd probably be dead if I didn't follow that light

It’s a long story but so many random things had to happen for me to meet my wife. It just reminds me that 90% of things outside of my control has affect on my life. It’s a humbling thought.

I think about it often at how crazy life is

We had graduated college in may and some other friends who took a little longer until December so we decided to go celebrate with them and a spur of the moment trip to NOLA for one night to celebrate

My friend had a girlfriend but was close to ending it with her anyway.

We were at Krazy Korner on the balcony and this group of really pretty girls saw us and came up to continue the party . They were celebrating a friends birthday, we were celebrating college graduates

My friend strikes up a convo with this gorgeous Mexican girl who was from McAllen. She had a boyfriend at the time but was also close to ending it. She told my friend she wouldn’t give him her number then, he would have to find her on bourbon street later on in the night

We are partying and we eventually go to Razzoos, we find the group again and she gives him her number. They start talking. Both break up with their respective SO’s soon after .

They start flying back and forth once a month from Jackson where he was living and Houston where she was.

He eventually moves out there and I was lucky enough to be in their wedding a few years later in McAllen at her parents huge ranch house .

He got his PhD in education and she’s a counselor with a masters degree and they have 2 girls under 3 and have been married for 8 years

What if we didn’t go to Nola that one night/or never saw that group of girls again.

Life.
