Why public toilet seats are horseshoe U shaped and residential seats are oval.
LINK

TLDR version
Apparently by law they must be U shapes to avoid genital to seat contact for males and to provide easier access for females to wipe their taint

And yet I don’t want my crank & nuts dragging the rim because that’s what people piss on.

The open front design is there to make it easier for women to wipe.
“allow women to wipe the perineal area after using the toilette without contacting the seat.”

Should be a law requiring footpads next to the seat since that's how 99.9% of women piss in public restrooms.

I think some guys at work believe it's for pissing into the toilet without lifting the seat up. Thanks for the piss splatter on the seat, baw.

When my mom and dad moved into our house before I was born my dad put horseshoe seats on every toilet for this reason. My mom made him return them all the same day.

Or was that the answer to the universe?
