The ultimate surprise would be to get her a gift for Christmas if she isn't expecting one.

She wouldn't be happy because she didn't get me anything, and that's how the cycle goes.

Christmas gifts have always been for kids in our tradition. It makes things less complicated

We don't do adult gifts for Christmas. I'll surprise her at some random time during the year when it's not expected. Decluttering the holidays.

I wish mine would do that. She always wants to set a cap to keep it cheap, but I never want anything that cheap. So she ends up getting me shite that collects dust or that I throw away. She seems content with it, but I will usually buy her much nicer things and break the cap anyway. I don't think she would care if I stayed within the cap, but I don't like buying useless garbage.

I rather just buy each other nothing and then I can spend the money on stuff I actually want.

No shite.

"Honey what do you want for Christmas?"

"I want that living room suite we saw the other day"

(Christmas Day)

"Surprise!"

Painting the risers. It's an all wood look right now (trim, treads, risers). Railings were painted for some reason. Having the trim painted white, treads white, spindles white, and the bannister/railings stripped and varnished.
