Watching this dude compare his Camaro to 911s has been high comedy

Like some dude on a Honda Rebel revving it up at a light taunting a Hayabusa.

I stole a parking spot from a Range Rover sport in my wife’s RAV4 today

Both. Automatic 10 speed. I’m not Mario Andretti but I know my way around a road course. That’s what’s amazing about this car....it’s not me, it’s the mode it’s in. The car far exceeds my abilities.

Yes they are great cars. I'd love to have a LE as track only ride. Sometimes its not about power and there is something about the way a 911 feels. It's like the car was built around you. Mine met an early demise but I'll have another. Zl1 is great dual threat car, you can put tires on it for the occasion and let it eat.

ETA I’m assuming that’s a drag event.
IDK launch control in a Turbo S is pretty damn fun. 10 second car with my wife driving.

You’re probably one of those arrive and drive types.

99BLKBRD....
Please understand that you came into a thread about the impending arrival of a new model Porsche to tout a Camaro and try to crap on Porsche.
With that said, I don’t think anyone in this thread is trying to discredit the attributes of the ZL1. Is it fast?...Yep. Is it stupid fast?...Yep. Can it handle a road course well?...Yep. Is it relatively affordable?..Yep. Do you get a lot of bang for your buck?...you betcha!
Is it a 911?...nope.
I left a 605 HP RS7 for a 911, and have owned a couple other high HP performance germans. As achenator posted above, he too has been down the same road, and has the same sentiments I had—there is just something you feel when you start to bear down on a 911. It is the most nimble, responsive driving machine I’ve driven.
There is a reason for the $100k difference in price between the two—extreme engineering. The 37-second N-ring lap time difference between the 2 kinda shows this. That’s not close.
...and be careful with all the chest thumping and race dares—you never know when someone may take you up on your offer (and back it $$), and show up in a GT3 RS—and I can tell you from plenty first hand experience, you will not cross the checkerboard first.

I did a launch in the 911 Exclusive Edition that came out last year—borderline ridiculous!

I keep watching the 991.1 RS prices fall and there is not a day that goes by that i don't think about getting one. I'd buy one of those and a daily kia before I's buy a 992 S I think lol. I have a tuned RS3 in the group now and it is stupid fun.

It had spunk off the line—but...
I didn’t launch much in the Audi because I always had this feeling, like I could almost feel it passing through the steering wheel through to my stomach, the massive torque shredding another 5000 miles of life off the tranny on every launch!
Launching almost 4600 lbs. to 60 in 3.7...something is eventually gonna give, and Audi double clutch =/= PDK.
After seeing the claimed launch numbers on the new M5, somewhere around 3.1, my first thought was “jeez, that poor transmission”...I just don’t see how numerous launches with that much force, on 8 speed trannys, will not take its toll in short order.

I’m just a broke dick but my dad owned a 2016 Turbo S and launching it in Sport+ was pretty wild, no fussing from the car, no sliding, just hooking up and moving quickly. I also remember being impressed at how durable it was too, I saw a video of a guy launching a Turbo S about 25 consecutive times and it was no big deal. Meanwhile Nissan was voiding warranties for people using launch control in their GTRs.

IIRC, Porsche was unable to break their GT2RS when testing launch control. Like they were torture testing it trying to see how many launches it took before something broke and they eventually gave up after like days of launches.
quote:
Porsche's philosophy is pretty concise: No human can execute a manual gearbox change in 100 milliseconds, which is what the PDK enables. Not to mention, the PDK was adapted from GT racing cars for what Porsche describes as "torque overshoot," where, under full throttle, the engine won't be retarded to preserve the transmission during the demand for acceleration. That means the PDK withstands insane abuse. Porsche has tested over 1000 full-throttle launch control starts in a row without failure. They've actually gone well beyond this point.

Porsche will still void your warranty for too much use of launch control on some 911s.
Forgot the whole story, but a friend bought some upgrade package that allows him to use unlimited launch control now. Sounded like a video game.

Yes. It is a fun and scary feeling all at the same time. The next 50 miles you are listening for absolutely anything that feels or sounds strange.

I don’t think this is accurate. PDK can take a beating.
