I like how SUNO has been at the top of everyone's list of schools to close for 10 years, and one of JBE's first declarations is that he ain't closing it.

Did this guy really just suggest closing LSU? The way it fuels the state's economy is enough to defend it. No politician who wants to continue to work in the state of Louisiana would even think about this anyways.

Yes. This guy did. It fuels the state's economy to the point that the Louisiana university system is on the verge of collapse? Right. Gotcha.

LSU has the most dropouts of any LA university, which means the most TOPS money going towards nothing, the most student debt racked up with nothing to show in return.

The areas around the main campus is a cesspool of all the worst Louisiana has to offer.

If they don't close it, they should at least defund it to close several departments to discourage students only interested in the school's letters from enrolling. Help cut revenue for all the slumlords in the surrounding area. Let the area die a slow, natural death.

I guess that's one way to make Southeastern relevant.

BRCC has 10,000 students now? I taught a night class there when it was just one building.

SUNO - UNO into UNO
We don't want the faculty, the campus, or the students. It would be a net negative for UNO. Completely sell SUNO and use the money to hire teachers at UNO. That's the only area we're lacking

ULM one of the top 10 nursing programs in the country

Link? Because a Google search showing the list of the top nursing programs in the state based on licensure scores and retention rate list Tech, ULL, and NWST as the top 3 on five different sites. ULM's program on this criteria is sandwiched between schools like SUBR, LC, and Grambling.

I'm just amazed that it has taken this long for the Advocate to write an article about it.

FYI I have a friend who works there. She says this project has been in the works for months, since at least last August.

A good example of hard choices caused by foolish decisions made in the past, but I would start by getting rid of graduate programs, especially at the smaller schools, closing SUNO, and combining places like Tech, ULM, and Grambling, mainly getting rid of non-teaching (and including athletic) positions at two of those three. I also never understood having LSU-A as a four year school. If something has to close, it should be near the top of the list.

When cutting graduate areas, look at those with few students and little outside funding.

Any cutting or closing attempts will be a war at the legislature. What we actually need is another constitutional convention to fix some of the locked in revenue situations.

Looked around lately? BR is dying with or without LSU on board.

Well you don't get rid of the only life support you have. You work on improving that and diversifying.

I know NW state was pushing online for a while but i haven't seen much about it lately.

They still are, and seem to have ramped it up a bit. They offer some solid online degree programs as an alternative to commuting.

Another consideration is that Northwestern also has a campus in Leesville. It is primarily nursing, but also offers the 2 year basics, and serves Fort Polk as well. Enrollment is small and the nursing program duplicates something they already have an hour away on the Natchitoches campus. It would be a drop in the bucket, but is another consideration as a place to start.

It may seem disloyal, being an NSU grad, but it is pretty redundant. Also, can we hold off on closing or scaling back Northwestern until May after I finish this second degree?

Southern - Honestly, I think keeping an HBCU is important, and it should be Southern. But serious changes are needed to make it more competitive

Than you. Sincerely. This is all I have been trying to say to the OT. For cultural reasons it does not hurt to have fully functional HBCU. I understand that SUNO is inefficient as I have seen their programs.

Suprisingly, I thought SUBR had issues, but from what I have seen at SUNO it is downright terrible. I really down think they put time into their students (particularly work ethic)

Our rival Grambling is redundant as well. This isn't a Jag / tiger issue, this is simply that Grambling has no program that SUBR does not have or can't EASILY adopt.

So let's expand SUBR, it can actually be salvaged.

All this talk on NW and SU bring about another issue in my opinion.

What will the new acceptance rates be. I may have to start a spin off on this issue alone. The reason some of these schools are relevant is that some people have no other choice.

I could only get into McNeese, ULL, or SUBR for engineering grad school. I never tried UNO cause I not used to metropolis driving. And after my "situation " I damn sure wasn't going back to Tech.

Everyone can't make it at a Tier One school. And those that do aren't always happy with their degrees.
