Why isn't the media reporting this?

They are. LINK

Can we please stop thinking "the media" is some uber liberal entity that is conspiring against the white man? Or whatever the frick the paranoia about the media is about? It's shocking how ignorant a lot of people are about journalism.

Wait a second cowboy. Did you see when this thread started?

Let me see if I follow your logic. This report has been around since day one and no Baton Rouge "journalist" thought to investigate a few of The Departed's convictions. Now you're trying to spin doctor some bullshite post to defend incompetent children in reporter costumes? Is that correct?

Of course it is not an entity, but with few exceptions "the media" is indeed uber liberal and the coverage or lack of coverage is slanted without a doubt. There is bias, no doubt.

The 2009 incident is relevant because it shows a sequence of events identical to the current set of events. It shows his predilection to pull a gun on police while being arrested.

But he didn't pull a gun. He "tried to reach into his left pocket for an unknown item" and then a gun "fell from his waistband." Subsequently, a "small plastic bag of suspected marijuana" was recovered from his left pocket. I don't even see where he fought the officer, just that he tried to flee and wrestle himself way. This is all from the probable cause affidavit (page 33 at this LINK)

This guy was a POS and should have been in jail, but how does this 2009 incident support the notion that he had to be killed? The same thing happened last time, with just 1 officer present, no shots were fired or attempted, and everyone survived basically unharmed. Shouldn't we expect the same outcome from these 2 officers?

The officer wasn't trying to kill the dude, he was trying to neutralize the threat. Unfortunately for all involved, he was a good shot and knocked that dumbass out.

It doesn't mean he had to be killed. It creates a pattern of attempts to become violent with police while illegally possessing a firearm.

You should run a newsroom since you seem to have it figured out.

If the cops had no idea who he was, then his prior history is irrelevant to their handling of the situation.

Yet no officer was injured in either encounter.

The most violent thing he did in 2009 was push the officer off him. He basically just tried to get away, resisted arrest.

Now, you can still argue the recent shooting was justified based on the circumstances of that encounter, but I don't think the 2009 incident helps your cause unless you think straightforward resisting arrest is cause for lethal force.

I don't think anyone is claiming he didn't resist arrest. And I haven't seen anyone claim he didn't have a gun. The question is did he attempt to use it against officers, or was it reasonably likely that he would have attempted to use it against the officers. He was armed in 2009 and did not.

I didn't say they were wrong for defending their lives when they thought they were in danger, it's just this particular situation is a lot less clear cut.

Clear as day to me. Moron with gun is fighting you as you try to arrest him. You see him reaching for a gun (which is why you were called to the scene in the first place) so you do the best thing possible. Shoot the bastard until he is dead.

Resisting arrest does NOT justify deadly force.

Resisting arrest while reaching for your gun justifies deadly force in every jurisdiction in this country!

If you can do a better job, then become a police officer and show us how it should be done.

I will start a pool on how long it takes for you to break the first rule of every police officer, which is to go home alive and safe at the end of your shift.
