No pagers, cell phones, fax machines, computers, LoJack. That gave you total anonimity if you wanted it. All business was done in person and you could still smoke in the back of an airplane. Public Schools could paddle your butt and everyone played sports year round. Music was incredible and the Warehouse had it all. Great decade.

You would be a 90's kid in my Meet Me at Sonic example, quite literally back then for small town fights.

Do they or do they not travel over multiple states to play in the "World Series of the Week"? I recall a topic about all the "World Series" there are earlier this week.

depends. You have different orginazations. Little League, Dixie Youth, Pony, babe ruth, dizzy dean, Cal Ripken, USSSA, 2d, Perfect game etc

so these world series of the week are just the world series for those orgininzations. Now many like PG & USSSA hold their invite only majors world series. these are the elite of the elite teams.

they also have smaller world series all over and you have the big perfect game one in destin/orange beach and the big usssa in orlando, the one at branson, pigeon forge, cal ripken expierence, the cooperstown dreams etc.

the ones traveling are going to the big ones mentioned above and vote as a team to go there, they arent forced too. and yes many are of the week because there are too many teams to have it all at once.

for example we are from lake charles, we did the usssa world series in sulphur as the kids are young. But nothing wrong with goign to the big ones if the whole team wants too. its a great expierence for the kids and a fun family vacation. They only play like 1 game a day most days and the places have events etc.

cousin of mine went to the big international usssa in orlando and got to meet people all over the world and stillis in contact with a few. like i said great expierence.

Better thing to ask is how can it be fixed to get Dixie Youth back like it used to be?

pay coaches, allow better bats, better rules(especially in 11&12), longer season etc......but in the end you cant. Too many shitty parents who use this only as a baby sitting gig. Travel weeds most of that out but also brings out the people who think their kid is Griffey JR.

All in all though if you are with a good org they will be strictly trying to develop the kids and not real worried about wins and losses. I have expierenced amazing and terrible coaching with my oldest two, but no way in hell i would take them back to rec ball.

Yeah Bactine was huge back then, used to spray it on me all the time after I got home from running in the woods or playing ball.

But yeah, maybe one PC for the whole house back in the day was fine but now there is no mystery to life even at a young age.

Yeah, that I have seen with the "my baby is going to be a superstar". I wouldn't say my coaches were the best but they weren't the worst. We had fun and only 1st, 2nd and 3rd place got trophies. Sure as hell made me want to try harder to get better.

well in travel really only first and second get anything.

in rec...pretty much everyone does. I have a little one still in tball so i see both sides. honestly unfortunately unless you are doing a shite ton of lessons or you are a bad arse coach yourself, its very very rare for a kid to even make a HS team now a days unless you are on a travel. And if you wanna make a team like barbe, you better be a top 10 travel kid in the area.

Pretty crazy, we had plenty that were very good in high school without all the extra lessons or being on travel ball teams. Also don't remember travel teams when I was coming up being a thing.

I get what you are saying though.

79 here. I consider myself an 80's kid and a 90's teen. Whenever I see '90's kid' memes it's always pogs and power rangers and shite that I'm too old for.

I know kids that couldn’t even get into their house until their parents go home. I had a babysitter when I was young 12 but really for my brother and sister who were 3 and 4 years younger but she didn’t give a shite. Sure I almost died a few times,(stupid street skates and brick) but I also had 15 year old hot girl show me her tits in my room and had some amazing adventures with my buddies. So it was worth it We were all free roaming kids. We used to walk a few miles to go to TG and Y just to use the make it yourself coke fountain.

We weren’t super tough or anything but just not scared of everyone damn thing

I grew up in 70s too. What we think of 70s is probably like 73-83.

3 damn channels, 4 if you count pbs
You like a song buy the ducking album
Dumpster diving for porn mags
Building secret fort in woods to read said mags
Talk about sex girls with your homies
Riding bikes or walking everywhere
10-15 cent candy bars,
Going around gathering up bottles to buy candy and comic books

Playing sports just for something to do and not every parent thinking their kid is a ducking Allstar
Or even giving a shite

Exploring every thing every where
Arguing over all kinds of shite no one knowing what the right answer was

We really didn’t have shite to do but had a great time coming up with shite and were rarely bored

Not giving a shite about who had what etc, just among your buddies

Hating to ever come inside and no one ever did it until your parents called you
