I take it you are a Little Feat aficionado? I play one or another of their albums about every other day. Another of my all-time favs. Lowell George is right up there with Duane Allman on the slide; Lowell was a bit funkier whereas Duane was more of the blues. Too bad they both left us way too early. I saw the Feat 3 or 4 times at a little club with a low ceiling in Atlanta called Richards. The acoustics were perfect in there for that particular band. Saw them once at Tipatinas in NOLA too. I heard that club is still going strong. Is that right anybody?

First time I think I heard it was during the one man show by John McConell about Huey Long. Damn that was an awesome show.

And to think, 20 years later he was composing and performing songs on Disney films.

I honestly couldn’t have predicted that in 1974. I bet Randy wouldn’t have believed it himself.

Yep, back then the chasm between Disney and Neuman was about as wide as the Pacific Ocean with Crocs and sea snakes infesting it bigly.

Went and saw him at the old Kingfish in Southdowns shopping center 40 years ago. Great show although he insisted that the audience made no noise or clapped while he was doing his show. He stopped a few times when the audience didn’t comply

Yea, he could be a dickhead every now and then. All "rock stars" can be that for sure from time to time. JJ Cale was like that too. He sat on a high-legged chair when he performed, so what else is he going to do?

You my friend have the best taste in music.

I grew up about 30 minutes drive from one of the great music towns in the country back in about 1969 to the mid to late 70s, Macon, Georgia. The summer of 69 my bad cousin, Anthony, would pick me up a quarter mile down the road from the house every Sunday afternoon ('cause my badass ole man hated cuz) and we would go see the Allman Brothers in Central City Park in Macon. Did the same in 70 and only once in 71 because by then they had just gotten to be too big of an act to be playing for free anymore. I was lucky enough to see Brother Duane slide that bottleneck up and down the frets like a possessed demon many, many times. Damn, he died so damn soon. Indeed, only the good die young. Wet Willie would be their opening act most of that particular time. Phil Walden had just brought them to town from Mobile. So yea, I got used to good music right quick. Sorry I waited so long to post.

“Short People “

I've heard that it's illegal in Maryland for radio stations to play that song. Not sure if true, but it would be par for the course in Maryland.

Aaron Neville's version post Katrina did to that song what Johnny Cash did to Hurt.

Yep. And amazing Neville recorded his version years prior to Katrina...but it didn't have the impact that it did until post-Katrina.

He has a bunch of uncles and cousins that are film composers and he worked with them early so I imagine it wasn’t much of a transition.

He also lived in New Orleans as a kid and I recall reading the story of the 1927 flood was told to him as a child which later developed into the song.

My grandparents in central Louisiana flooded in that and lived on the roof of their farmhouse until eventually moving to high ground in Harrisonburg LA and waited it out. That song has meaning to me. Also the book Rising Tide about the same flood does as well.

We can build drainage infrastructure to prevent these things in the future if we would just commit to doing it. But our "Louisiana can't do that" attitude will probably get in the way.

Here we are on the cusp of a major infrastructure bill, and who is talking about getting billions to address these issues? Nobody. We have a vacuum of leadership.

Maryland puzzles the hell out of me. I lived in Annapolis for 3years back in the 90s (went to St. John's College for 2) and really enjoyed it for the most part, but deep down in my soul I just felt there was just something not right at all about Maryland as a whole; something fundamentally fricked up about the place (not Annapolis per se). Maybe I'll start a thread on the topic in a few days.
