It came up out of the blue on Amazon Prime a few minutes ago. Hit me like a ton of bricks. I just got finished crying like a baby. Life for me back when that song was recorded was a lot harder than now but much more full and richer in every way. God bless one and all in South Louisiana because y'all are for real. Hope I make it back one of these days, but then again, maybe I better not.

I like that one too, but the entire album is a classic. The point of reference was my time in the oil patch back in the mid 70s to early 80s and that song.
BTW, Lucinda Williams just came on with "Car Wheels on a Gravel Road." That one brings a little bit of sweet meloncoly to this ole half hippy-half red neck too.

Aaron Neville's version post Katrina did to that song what Johnny Cash did to Hurt.

The original was great, classic. Aaron put a feeling into it for today that has a different feeling.

Yeah, Good Old Boys is one of my favorite albums too. I love every song on it. It runs you through a wide range of emotions from start to finish. But why must everyone laugh at his mighty sword?

Jimmy Buffett did a great version on his Fruitcakes tour at the LSU Assembly Center. 1994 - had to look it up. There was some serious flooding going on around Baton Rouge at the time.

Just a fantastic album. Every man a king, and every song a good-un.

When “Short People “ hit our office manager and the receptionist were both short fat people. They were laughing, singing and dancing to the song. They weren’t offended at all.

Imagine today.

Watch the recording of it on YouTube. You’ll laugh.

A Jew talking about crackers blowing up levees. Hard pass. But cry away.

Frankly, the first time I listened to the album I wanted to put a fist through the wall I was so pissed off. But at the same time, I could not turn it off. About the 5th time I listened to it I started laughing my arse off and couldn't stop laughing.
To this day I listen to the Allman Brothers Live at Fillmore East about ever 3 or 4 days. I don't listen to Good Ole Boys but maybe once a month, but it would still be one of my 4 or 5 keepers if I lived on a deserted island.

Powerful song. Jimmy Buffett covered it a few times live.

I listen to that often. I like the beginning of “ Don’t Keep Me Wondering “ in that version.

And to think, 20 years later he was composing and performing songs on Disney films.

I honestly couldn’t have predicted that in 1974. I bet Randy wouldn’t have believed it himself.
