3) at the end of the day, strip the bird, bake the bones at 350 for another hour, break them, boil them, then toss the rest of the meat in a gumbo. It’s my favorite gumbo of the year, and I consider cooking a whole turkey on the pit every time I want gumbo now

Yeah I'm probably gonna buy another turkey tomorrow while they're still on sale just to keep in the freezer for when I want a good gumbo

everyone getting together for thanksgiving has fallen apart in our family

We still do it just because of my old arse parents. Once they are gone, I’m going to push for my little family to just use the week for nice vacations.
We promised my parents they get Thanksgiving and my in-laws get Christmas Day.
If I’m with my wife and kids(and future grandkids), I don’t care if it’s not a traditional Thanksgiving

To honor the Native Americans for Thanksgiving, we go to the casino followed by a night of fireworks and firewater.

Oyster dressing?

That was never a thing for me growing up but wife’s family made it and she does now. I could possibly eat myself to death on that stuff.

I'm of the firm belief that if you're not hosting, you should at least pitch in. Especially if it's Grandparents still hosting late in age.

My Grandmother is still hosting Thanksgiving at almost 90. She's on a fixed income. I generally think my cousins are pieces of shite for dragging all of their kids and baby daddies to Thanksgiving and not offering my Grandmother a dime for the meal (and she does it all herself0.

I'm on pie duty this year and am picking up some bakery rolls from a local bakery tomorrow. I slipped $50 in her wallet when I was over the other day (otherwise she'll try to refuse) before she went shopping.

My Grandmother makes the following from scratch:

Turkey
Cornbread Dressing
Mashed Potatoes
Gravy
Green Beans
Oyster Dressing
Three Bean Salad
Corn
Candied Yams (with Marshmallows )
Coleslaw
Tomato Pudding
Mac and Cheese

She's ok with me cooking and one of my cousins, but my aunt is the type that wants to "try a new recipe" whenever she fixes anything and it usually ends up being not very good. So I think she's also trying to avoid that by not giving up fixing it.

BTB's Four Hot Takes of the Thanksgiving Apocalypse:

1. Mashed potatoes > rice

2. Green bean casserole is stupid

3. Butternut squash > sweet potato casserole

4. Dinner rolls in the tin dish are dumb

Thanksgiving ham is vastly superior to Thanksgiving turkey.
