I've come close on the Pelagos 39, the Pelagos LHD and the black FXD on numerous occasions, but each time walked out empty handed. I may not be able to help myself with this one.

I agree the FXD GMT is a looker. I am just not sure how I would get on with a fixed lug watch. I am honestly not much of a NATO fan, though I would get over that if someone gifted me a 5517 which is one of my grails. I was sure if I bought another Tudor it would be the white dialed BB GMT but I am not so sure now.

Up for today is the 116660 another of my ridiculous watches, the Deep Sea Sea Dweller AKA DSSD. 44mm x 17.7mm of absolute silliness with a touch of the Yacht-Master II billboard-itis.

I struggle with the off white. Wish they would have made it stark white like the other FXDs then I would have considered it.

Speaking of, today, and pretty much every day of this month has been the black Pelagos FXD.

I continue my search for the best straps, and this one has become #1. The Watches of Espionage Glomar Explorer with PVD hardware. It's the closest thing to the factory FXD strap that you can find, but in different colors.

Next on my radar is a Zealand rubber single pass nato.

Sized for my just over 7" wrist it just tops 200 grams, IIRC 203. It is actually lighter than my 116619 "Smurf" which is over 210 grams sized for me.

The heaviest watch I own is a Ploprof on shark mesh which weighs 268 grams.

Making good on my profession last week to wear this one more...In contrast to your DSSD, I have the diminutive 34mm 15200 Oyster Perpetual Date. I took off the Oyster bracelet (something I rarely do) and put a matte chocolate gator on it, paying homage to one of the first Rolexes I ever saw up close in person, my brother in law's early 1980's AirKing my sister bought him for finishing residency.

Pardon the terrible photo quality, though I think my dog in the background makes up for it. Shows however that wrist shots make watches look bigger than they really are.

Also, I agree with you, by and large not a fan of NATO's - don't generally like anything that increases the thickness of a watch, especially an already substantial one.

What's your wrist size, mate? I thought the first Pelagos on the bracelet looked big on me, haven't tried on an FXD to date. Probably will Thanksgiving weekend though.

7-1/8 to 7-1/4 depending on the diet. The FXD wears considerably smaller than the original Pelagos due to it being more than 2mm thinner and the fact that straps inherently reduce visual size (at least that's my opinion).

It's a great watch, and compliments my Black Bay Pro exactly as I hoped it would.

I agree with you in general, especially on bracelets where the end link extends out past the lugs rather than dropping straight down.

Changing the subject, but found myself coming close to picking up a 1970's Omega f300hz tuning fork watch. I was particularly looking at the models with the "C" shaped cases.

My dad had an early Bulova Accutron with the electronic tuning fork movement. As a kid I was fairly mesmerized by the floating second hand action and the faint hum of the movement. It's what caused me to pick up a GS spring drive watch on a lark when seeing one in person.

Team cream for me. I like the Faux-tina for this watch. Hope I get to see one this weekend, I'll be at one of "my" two AD's, and this one has Tudor.

I agree I think it fits the watch. Since the beginning of the "fauxtina" movement over a decade ago I have argued it is simply a design/colorway choice that fits perfectly to some designs.

I do find it interesting that so many of the other design choices meant to evoke a vintage feel are embraced (smaller cases, softer cases, integrated bracelets, large crowns, lack of crown guards, etc) while off-white lume is villainized. I might feel differently if Super-LumiNova and its analogs got creamy with age but they don't (unless you get certain chemicals on them, DAMHIK).

Jumping back to the NATO discussion I am not put off my chunky watches but especially a strap that double passes under the case makes them unwieldy to me. Even a chunky hockey puck is fine by me if the entire watch case sits flat against my wrist because it feels connected to me. The NATO* is roughly half the width of the watch and sitting up on that narrow perch just causes me to lose that feeling that the watch is connected to my wrist making it feel loose and ungangly. This doesn't happen with small light weight watches like say a typical field watch but the extra thickness is just magnified and the watch looks silly to me the way it sits on the wrist. I love the idea of using various NATO straps to change it up but they just don't work for me in practice.

* frick you International Watchman Inc they are all NATOs to me I don't care that you trademarked the name.

I've had my eye on the Muhle Glashutte SAR for a few months and just now pulled the trigger on it. I rarely indulge in retail therapy but it's been a shitty year and I felt like giving myself an early Christmas present.

The unique thing about the white dial version is that the whole face is lumed.

Great watch!

Today I have on the Panerai 532 Radiomer 1940 "Paneristi Forever" on an interestingly dyed ostrich strap. The watch that pissed off a lot of Panerai's most ardent fans. I forgot to get a picture of the most interesting part of the watch: the pig dial. I just grabbed a picture of the net. The pig or maiale was a human torpedo used in WWII. There are a handful of Panerais with pig dials, some love them some hate them.

One day I will get a Panerai. Got into watches in the 2000s when Panerai was at its peak and still feel like I ought to own one. Ostrich strap looks fun.

This one for me, again:

May have a very interesting watch in by next Friday (almost a 2 year wait…).

How do you keep all of those automatic watches running?

Seriously, I couldn't keep this Seiko running. If I took it off, and it stopped, it wouldn't start back running again. Paid an authorized Seiko jeweler $125 to get it running. When it stopped and I couldn't get it to run again, I took it back to him and he fixed it for no charge, but he said I just needed to wear it.

POOR MAN"S POST:

Been wearing these lately.

LSU game day watch.

the one on the right is the one that stopped. I had changed out the band. I kind of replaced it with the solar watch on the left.
