--48 million for a HS stadium that will be shite in 20 years isn't necessarily the right way---

20 years? Have you seen 50 year old Olympia or 80 year old Memorial stadiums in BR? Rust buckets, sad to say

So what are schools supposed to do? Before Allen built their new stadium, the old stadium was so small that they didn't have room for opposing fans. School has 6000 kids, proud alumni, band with 1000 kids plus their parents...you need a stadium of 12k plus to fit everyone. McKinney is building theirs for the entire district to use, not just one school. Prosper is the next Frisco. They are one high school now but project to have 6 by 2030. What are these school districts supposed to do if you don't want them building these stadiums?

Voters in Texas have shown that they are for tax increases to go towards schools.

how many 5* kids do these schools actually produce?

off the top of my head...

Zach Lee (LSU Baseball/Football commit) 1st round MLB draft
Greg Little - #1 OT tackle in country

I'm sure I'm missing several

But lots of 4-star kids on D1 rosters

Why does everybody always pick on the kicker? "MISD" behind the goal posts.

Just because they can, doesn't mean they should.

Those stadiums are Awsome but silly at the same time. I get that Tx taxes aren't mysteriously disappearing like La's but there's better ways to spend it IMO.

the property taxes in TX go largely to the school districts, they're ridiculously high

When the story about McKinney's stadium broke, I ran some quick numbers. If transplanted everything - my income, home, etc - to McKinney. My State and local effective tax rate would be almost identical.

And this without factoring in the cost of private education IN BR.

What was your State and local effective rate? And what do you get for your money?

You can only spend it so many ways... Education is top tier, rated a 9 out of 10 or 10 out of 10 by Great Schools.

McKinney just built this $36-million Aquatic Center for city residents, 3 story fitness center with exterior water slides, indoor pools with lazy river, gym equipment, etc

I would agree if their schools were shite like EBR but their local services are the best in the country

In Texas, it is not the city, but the district that pays for the stadiums and other buildings needed.

Katy ISD will be playing in a new stadium (12,000 seats), the "old" (9500 seats) one opened in the late "70's and will remain open. There will be games in both stadiums at the same time.

With the growth and number of schools that all share the stadium, it was desperately needed.

Also, I grew up in BR. Memorial stadium (old stadium) was in terrible shape with I was in school and played there for BR High (prior to magnet school). It breaks my heart to go back to BR and see the condition that all of BR schools are in. Makes me wonder where the funds went if what y'all say is true - same amount of taxes paid as in Texas.

Oh, and yes, in Katy, that stadium is filled up for several games each year. It is also used for little league football, soccer and lacrosse.

TX, as FL, claims to be a "no income tax" state, but trust me, they both know how to extract it from you

Good schools make for high property values. Your taxes are still working for you, my man.
