Prayers to you and yours. Aren't you that evil biker bastard? Probably at Twin Peaks and set off that powder keg.

I am the OT's resident biker I suppose. I'd not call myself evil though. As for Waco, I've not been through there since the late 90's.

It's Texas. And Houston Texas at that. Oil field truck nuts guy, and truck nuts guys Dad? I would not put it past someone.

But pigeon hole me into the anti gun crowd if it makes you feel better.

You pigeon holed yourself as just plain ignorant. Please, cite some statistics from the states that have had open carry that justify your fears. Surely you have some reasonable basis for your paranoia.

You do realize it's guys like that who actually know how to handle a firearm for the most part and probably grew up doing so, right?

For example if I were to hand my .44 Bulldog to a Harvard professor, I'd expect him to not have a clue how to handle it safely. But if I were to hand my .44 to a truck driving, redneck country boy, I'd expect him to know exactly how to handle it safely.

Well first off I'm not handing my pistol to any stranger. I was trying to make the point to him that it's usually the very guys he's worried about who actually do know how to handle a firearm safely.

Simply asking a question does not equal paranoia.

If it goes without issue? Great. I hope it does. I'm really not against anything. Just asking questions. I've stated open carry is just not for ME but I would consider CHL. I think the novelty of open carry will give way to the hassle of it and it will become a non issue.

Actually conceal carry is more of a hassle. I've been temped to start open carrying at least during the summer months when I'm going somewhere not wearing my cut.

At a gun range. Or out on a piece of property. But not out in public. I would not expect that. We have not lived in the 19th century where "open carry" was not a term. Back then it was just "my gun". Might be a learning curve. Not saying rampant accidental shootings, just the hassle of looking at every businesses sign to see if it allows. Stopping for a beer with friends and "aw shite. Let me put this in the trunk" or carrying two sets of holsters for open and conceal. Many scenarios to consider. Just as a hassle. Not as a danger.

Then, yes. The safety aspect of carrying a gun that has sat in a case for your whole life.

Just how many ancient pistols do you think are being dusted off around Texas today? You do realize most really old pistols are quite valuable collectors items, right? I'd imagine most of them are in the possession of people who know how to handle them. Furthermore, I'd imagine they have the means to keep their antique firearms at home in a display case and buying a more modern firearm to carry day to day.

Round Rock is my first hometown. Man it's changed a lot since we left in '85.

my thoughts are most people who open carry do so more for attention than anything else, if you carry for protection you conceal it.

I've seen people open carry at funerals and kid's birthday parties and it makes no sense to me. Sure I do have a gun on me a lot of times, but I don't want the world to know that I do.
