Mark Oberholtzer, who has owned and operated Mark-1 Plumbing in Texas City for the past 32 years, confirmed it was his pickup truck in the picture. He said he no longer owned the vehicle and had no idea how it ended up in Syria.
That's just funny.

TEXAS CITY — A local plumber is being flooded with phone calls — and some threats — after a picture of one of his old company vehicles being used by Islamist militants in Syria was posted on Twitter.
That's just sad

It was on the news here in Houston, he has apparently been getting several death threats.
He sold it to a dealership with all of the decals still on there and it somehow ended up belonging to a terrorist organization.

eta: that's odd that the dealership turned around and sold the truck with the decals still on it, unless the dealership is actually just an ISIS business front.

And the lesson is, don't sell your shite until you remove all personally identifiable information.

Wait that's a ford. I just watched a YouTube video that pretty much assured me that fords don't go into battle amongst other things.

Is there anything he can do here legally?
Not a lawyer, but he sold it to the dealership as is I'm assuming, so I imagine they could do whatever they want with it. I'm sure they didn't sell it directly to ISIS or whoever has it now.

The dealership told him the decals would be removed.

Oberholtzer said he traded in the truck to an AutoNation dealership three years ago. He usually takes the decals off his vehicles when he sells them but he left it on this truck with the expectation that AutoNation would remove it.
“They were supposed to have done it and it looks like they didn’t do it,” Oberholtzer said. “How it ended up in Syria, I’ll never know.”
I dunno man. Did they tell him that or did he make an assumption? If they told him, Im not sure he would have worded it like that.

I would agree, Mark. This appears to be the case.

You'd be wasting your money.

It likely ended up "IN TOW" to Mexico, then somehow crosses the Atlantic and ends up in Syria?
How the frick does that happen?

AutoNation is a pretty big outfit, maybe they did a bulk overseas shipment.
Some dude running an oil field buys it and later on, a bunch of assholes with AK-47s show up and steal it.
It's not inconceivable to me that a truck can be owned my some guy in Texas and end up in SW Asia.
