There is nothing wrong with Texans being proud of their state and heritage.
The problem with all too many of them is that they seem not to recognize that you can be proud of your state and heritage without disparaging and shitting on everything that isn’t “Texas”
frick those people

There’s very little scenery in the state outside of the hill country.
There’s plenty of beautiful Lakes with great fishing and water sports.

The climate is absolute dogshit in the summer.
Fact.

the infrastructure and roads are garbage.
I don’t even know what you’re talking about here. Our roads are fantastic and sitting in traffic means going 45 mph (outside of Houston).
Our property taxes also pay for great schools.
quote:
People are only moving to Texas for two reasons: cheap living
Despite those ridiculous property taxes, eh?

to make a political statement.
This is just dumb. No one moves to Texas to make a political statement.
People move here for good paying employment, great schools, nice roads and higher standard of living.
It’s ok if you don’t like it, it’s certainly not for everyone. But it’s been a great place to work, save for retirement, raise children and send them off to great universities or set them up with apprenticeships.

Yep Texas has zero scenery aside from the hill country. Please keep pushing that narrative.

That’d be valid if I hadn’t already lived elsewhere.

As a Texas lad I gotta say you ain’t wrong. No clue why so many people move here.

OKC is Abilene with a few Fortune 500 companies

Is it true that they're all man-made?

No state income tax, but I’m sure they make it up in property and sales tax. I do believe a lot of people move from CA to TX and that would be attractive. I enjoyed my time in TX, wouldn’t be opposed to going back but again it’s location is key, I’m not pulling up in El Paso.

correct. there are no natural lakes in the state of Texas.
Posted on 5/4/25 at 12:55 pm to SlowFlowPro
Not all. Cedar Creek lake is man made reservoir built by a dam. Others are similar. Fishing is fantastic.

fair.
I’ve learned a great lesson from SFP today, never speak in absolutes on TD.

the Mountains in Big Bend, area, Fort Davis Area, Guadalupe area, the Canyon up around Palo Duro are all way more scenic than hill country.

Not to mention Possum Kingdom Lake. Just stunning.

The OP has several points. Austin was really Texas only great city and it’s gone to shite, the politicians are as dumb and short sighted as those are in Mississippi and Alabama, not as bad as Louisiana, and it’s full of both illegal aliens and the other kind, and they are significantly behind in upgrading their infrastructure to keep up with their growth, and don’t get me started on their fricking children sex rings, they make Hollywood look like child play. (Looking at you Houston)
That said, the one thing they did that very few of the Southern states did was somehow they keep a really good school system after desegregation. You basically can’t send your kids to public school in 98% of the districts in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. (Yes I know there is U high, Ocean Springs, Mountain Brook, etc but outside of Huntsville give me another major city with good schools. Maybe it was just lack of minority population, maybe Texas just value education more I don’t know. But when most of the other public schools went to shite in the South they didn’t and that in itself made it attractive to people.
Private school is great but cost me a
250k-300k plus for my kids in mobile and I am told that is cheap. There is a reason they are filled with doctor, lawyer , kids etc

I am coming around to the idea that Texas might be overrated unless you inherit family ranch land.
But it seems like most other places suck too.
