Be curious as to how he did this. There is an option to require the original authorization as a part of the refund and without it, a stand alone refund wouldnt work. Usually a fast food joint would require this to prevent tbis kind of fraud.

When I first read this last week I thought about the same. I was wondering if it was in a food court at a mall, but another statement made it seem more like it was a stand alone location (but still not completely sure or if a mall how he got into that unless he got another job there).

There should have been some other terminations or at least first and finals based on how he got in to do this. I know locations take shortcuts, but if you are in the back getting ready for opening you are supposed to keep the doors locked and come up and open them for arriving employees. When a manager or supervisor continually takes short cuts with security including leaving doors unlocked or propped open for arriving employees a former employee is going to take advantage of this.

Would this prevent returning to a different form of payment? He rang the stuff up and then returned them to his credit card. I am not sure what form of payment he used to ring up the sales, but I am guessing it along with the amounts were something he noticed usually being written off at the end of the day or that people not initially held accountable like if store credits have to matched or a certain amount allowed for customer service issues.

Should have been caught earlier, but it seems like someone didn’t look until they got hit with trying to explain the $80,000 shortage at the end of the month.

The way I read it is he was refunding some amount to his own personal card. So if he didn't ring up the sale on his card, he wouldn't be able to refund to his card. So if he did a sale for $10, he could only refund up to $10 on that same card. We do allow stand alone refunds in many cases, but a fast food restaurant normally wants this feature enabled to prevent employee theft like this. There are also chargeback ramifications to not refunding a transaction submitted against the same authorization code.

My brain can't quite wrap around the process here. He would have had to ring up the sale as cash, then do a refund with a credit card. So the till would be short the cash at the end of the day, then the merchant account would be in the hole. It wouldn't be long to notice $80k missing in that scenario either.

Not saying he didn't do it, but my mind always ponders the details. And I can't find them here.

This is my go-to chick fil A. Could have been my mac n cheese!!

800 orders doesn't seem right. The cost of mac ranges from $5 to $10 based on size. That's 16,000 to 8,000 orders. Curious how they came up with 800.
