And holy shite are those cars fast.
I rented a model 3 (performance model) for a few days on a vacation in Colorado a couple years ago. I had an absolute blast driving it. The first time I floored it, it sent everyone's head into the head rest violently.

And as an aside...drove to the pharmacy yesterday. 2 miles there and back. No less than 3 idiots just pulled out in front of me. If I had not braked we would have collided. I was left laughing at the sheer idiocy or audaciousness, or even couldn't give a frickness of them. We have too many drivers that are either distracted, stupid, or willfully brazen. At least the computer didn't exhibit that.

My dad cant drive anymore because of his vision. It would be so awesome to be able to send a car like a tesla to pick him up and bring him where he needs to go. a true game changer.

It's probably one of the greatest marvels to be invented in our time.

They are testing unassisted FSD in Austin right now
There were 2 of the driver less Uber type cars dropping off people at the UT softball stadium between games at the HS state championships. There were so many people in the street that those cars froze and didn't move. Someone had to come and manually turn them around so they could do pick up more riders.
It looked funny, but I was impressed that the cars did not try to continue down the street with so many people walking down the middle.

The one I drove was just a regular X and it put you into the back of the seat. I can't imagine what a plaid feels like.

Did you try launch mode?
Posted on 7/11/25 at 8:53 pm to jmarto1
No, I didn't really know what the hell I was doing in it.
I just know it launched when I punched the pedal.

Launch mode is even better!

I've had my new Model Y (Juniper type, which I think looks a lot better than the older ones) for about a month now. I mostly bought it because of the FSD, but it does have some issues:
-FSD doesn't give a flying frick about unprotected left turns. For my short daily commute home, it wants to shave off a few blocks of driving in favor of making an unprotected left that takes forever in heavy traffic. I wish that I could set it to go an extra few blocks and take a right turn onto the street instead (Cleary next to the overpass). The left turn that it wants to take is also illegal, though tons of people do it anyway. The sign at that turn says "right turn only" instead of a more typical "no left turn", so it's possible that the FSD doesn't recognize it. Unfortunately, you can't easily set a specific route for common trips, so it's not even worth using FSD going to/from work. I could disengage/re-engage FSD every time to avoid that having to make that left turn, but if I forget then it's a pain in the arse.
-at some stop signs, there's an infamous Tesla "creep" that is very unnerving. When visibility is a bit limited, they stop at the sign or street line (if there is one), then start moving forward slowly to get a better sight of the cross-road. I know that it can see the cars coming and isn't going to hit them, but it sure as shite feels like it will. Apparently FSD used to be a lot better at this, stopping once closer to the street corner, then going once it was clear. Some government agency forced them to do the bullshite that they do now. The current method makes it more likely to get rear-ended, plus it probably freaks cross-traffic drivers out with the car moving forward into their lane with a driver that may very well be looking straight ahead.
-As previously mentioned, it makes weird lane decisions sometimes. I think that the FSD system is much more heavily based on the cameras than it is the existing mapping system, otherwise it would do a better job getting out of lanes that are ending soon. For the left lane cruising that people have brought up, that is a bit of an issue, but all you need to do is hit the right blinker and it will move over and do a decent job staying in the middle/right lanes.
Other than that, I do love the car. FSD has been great for mid-range and long-range drives, especially driving in areas that I'm unfamiliar with. I had to buy it in Jackson since Tesla "dealerships" are illegal in LA. I drove it from Jackson to McComb to get acquainted with regenerative breaking and how the car handles. Elon drove me from McComb to Metry without any issue. Besides parking lots (FSD is pretty shitty here) and driveways (I don't think that FSD is capable of pulling into a driveway, it will park on the street in front of my house), the only disengagements I've done were because I was uncomfortable, not because it was necessarily going to kill me. The car hauls arse, has a much improved suspension, has a very quiet interior, and I really like the minimalist interior design.
