Wasn't until I moved futher inland in 97 that I learned that not all termites fly. They come up from the ground, here.

Yep, you're good. Unless you have moisture above the barrier.
And for those talking about caulking to keep them out, that's probably pretty futile. Those things can fit through the tiniest of cracks.

Duck tape works the best during swarming season

Or, just have your home treated and not have to worry about it.

My contact went up yesterday. I'm sure they account for a lapse on treatment but how long does it last?

Termidor lasts 7-10 years, if that's what was used.
ETA: provided the barrier is unadulterated

Literally just killed a termite by my back door. No wings. Might be a worker. we recently just mulched the yard. Is it possible for termites to be in the bags?

I'm guessing this is a south La phenomenon? Never had problems with swarming termites in Mississippi.
I'm in Mobile and they are swarming now, so no not just southern La.

So Termidor doesnt work if you have a roof leak or something like that? If they fly in they are good to go?
Posted on 5/13/15 at 11:07 pm to markasaurus
formosans no problem
they will be gone in less than 2 weeks.

No termites here in jackson, but the cicadas are biblical status right now
Posted on 5/13/15 at 11:35 pm to markasaurus
They're here in LC. I've found a few in my house. I scoop them up and toss them into my aquarium.
The fish go freaking crazy.

That doesn't stop them from getting into your house

The most comman type of termites is subterranean ( formosans included) and they swarm this time of year to make new colonies. The larger established colonies that live in all our yards send out the "extras" to try and start new colonies. The extras get darker in color and grow wings. They fly as far away from the base colony ( mostly going with the wind direction). When they land the wings pop off and they start looking for a new place to start a new colony. Unless you have a bad moisture problem inside your house they will eventually die.
They are subterranean because the colony needs moisture, lots of it in most cases. Usually they live in the ground and build dirt tunnels into our homes. The dirt tunnels protect them from ants, etc that will eat them. Plus it helps them retain moisture.
The biggest thing you can learn from them swarming is if you see a bunch of them in your house you might have a colony you don't know about eating on your house. Look for pinholes in the Sheetrock where they might be swarming from.
