My pest control company keeps pestering me about spending nearly 1k to keep Formosan termites away. Anyone have any advice on whether I need that or not?

If you live in an area w/ swarms of them, I would get the treatment done. Doesn't have to be done by pros, though. A poster in here earlier said all you need is a 5 gallon bucket, a shovel, and Termidor. He's spot on. That's how I do it, and I've been in this business for 26 years.

The only times I really use my tank setup and gun is if there's an attached slab that has to be drilled for some reason and I need to blast that stuff below the slab. Dirt filled porches attached to the house for sure should get the drill and treat as well.

Companies have ways of getting out of it.

Ive seen a guy I now pay into it for 10+ years. Only to be denied because the termites were "ariel"

My mother uses Terminix and has bait stations. BUT last year they gave her a quote to encapsulate her crawl space and do a lot of other unnecessary junk.WTF she probably would have paid if we told her to throw it out.

If she lives in the SE she probably needs encapsulation, just don’t let Terminix do it. Also, if wood moisture content is too high a termite company will drop a repair warranty to a retreat. Terminix blows regardless.
