I have zero personal experience. But FWIW (not much), I am negotiating with a wealthy (to put it mildly) Saudi Arabian family to set up a business in Dammam. The patriarch has gone to great lengths telling me how much he loves his Genesis. And no, he wasn't trying to sell me his or trolling me. This guy has a stable of top tier luxury rigs just because he can. He contrasted and compared each with his beloved Genesis and says he prefers it over any of the others.

I have a G70 and wife has a GV70. Both love the cars. I would pay attention to which dealership is near you as they’re still building out the standalone dealerships nationwide. They just finished a new one for us and it’s very nice, but there’s a chance your local dealership is a joint Hyundai/Genesis location which can lead to a non luxury car experience.

Should check out an Infiniti QX60, but make sure it's a 24 or older CPO. 25 and 26 have 2.0L twin turbo (older ones have a 3.5L V6).

We’ve been looking at the Genesis and it seems like a solid vehicle. One note is that if you need a 3rd row, it’s limited to only certain trims. We have a Hyundai Palisade now and it’s been great, despite the general hate for the “it’s a POS Hyundai” on here.

We’re on the list for a GX right now and have been since April. I’m down to #3 and #15 for the different trim levels, starting at like 250+ overall.

You can find them available if you really expand your search, but will likely pay a markup. Otherwise, no reason to pay that $14k markup as that’s pretty unusual for them after a waitlist. Most dealers are selling at MSRP.

Used GXs are selling more more than new MSRP, so it’s definitely not a great option.

it's still a Hyundai. (no Hyundai hate, just stating if you paying Lexus and Acura $$, buy a Lexus or an Acura) GX550 or if you want to save a little coin MDX is what you want

You can do the responsible thing and go reliable like Japanese or (I guess) Korean, but nothing drives like a Bimmer

You instantly feel like you are better than everyone else on the road

Never driven an X7, but had an X5 rental and loved it

Also used to own a 7-Series

I bought a G80 in 2017 and it has been a really good car. Tons of tech for 2017 and a great ride. Transmission went out during Covid and it was replaced for free, but it took 40 days due to supply chain issues. Other than that just normal wear and tear repairs. I would definitely buy another one.

Bought the wife a gv80 4 months ago. She loves it. Looked at the X-5 and yku really get more with the Genesis at the same price. It’s definitely up there with luxury vehicles even though it’s a Hyundai. They had a 1.9% rate when we bought. Looked at a good bit of other brands and we wanted a 6 cylinder which narrowed down the choices. Ultimately it was decided on the interest rate. BMW, Lincoln, Acura, etc were around 5-7%

Salesman had no idea about the features.

This shouldn’t be a surprise. Most don’t and even owners don’t know all the features lol

We own an GV70 and BMW X7. I’m not a fan at all of the Genesis and we absolutely love the X7.

Thanks for all the responses. A couple of points worth mentioning.

“It’s still a Hyundai”. Well, Lexus is still a Toyota, Accura is still a Honda, Infiniti is still a Nissan, Audi and Porsche are still Volkswagen’s, Cadillac is a GMC and Lincoln is a Ford. Very few of these luxury models are stand alone manufacturers so no need to worry about the brand shaming!

If we keep a car 5 years that’s a long time. It doesn’t sound like the Genesis will have much trade in value so that might be an issue.

I know these luxury brands depreciate like a cold shower but anyone with Genesis experience please weigh in. I just don’t want to spend north of $90k and have to constantly be in the shop. TIA

Depreciation is strongly correlated with long term reliability.

If you buy a reliable vehicle and maintain it for 20 years, depreciation is a non-issue.
