I could deal with the pretentiousness if their road system wasn't absolutely insane and the most inefficient roadway I've ever seen. That's the one thing about Lake Charles that never gets discussed in these conversations is we have and almost perfect grid like roadway system until you get to the outer edges, in addition to two interstates.

The city and parish government are also pretty good about projecting future usage and preemptively trying to address corridors with traffic. Now that doesn't mean that certain roadways are immune to traffic because that's impossible, but I would be shocked if any other city is his Forward thinking in terms of dealing with future traffic.

well yea...same with the burbs of south houston....when you have a lot of uneducated people making really good money, like as is in LC with operators in the plants..you will have that for sure.

you also have a large % in LC that give zero fricks. they want to work, be with the family and hunt/fish and could give zero fricks about real estate other than they live in nice house in nice area.

Lafayette is such a pain in the arse to get around the city. I hate going to Lafayette. The loop and less people in LC makes it so much easier to navigate.

agree with this for sure. and if you think LC has flooding...jesus the burbs of lafayette are terrible about that.

another good thing is LC has plenty of room to grow...just will be towards the SE instead of SW like before.

Current problem is sellers think just because of location they can command top dollar regardless. It doesn't work that way in this market.

I believe so. And W-M I'd imagine.

The problem with SELA is that the worst area in LC history has developed out there. If they could ever make a small HS out for the Bell City/South Iowa area the population would explode.

Stout explained to me a few years ago about why Iowa is growing, and it's basically the new Moss Bluff.

Yeah the holmwood area has really grown up. I rode out there one day just riding and couldn’t believe how much it’s grown the last 10 years. Iowa is pushing high 4a enrollment they could easily support a smaller school with Bell City

My wife and I lived in LC for 5 years and then moved back to BR after Laura. It took us a VERY long time to make friends over there because we were immediately judged as snooty just because we were from BR.

We did eventually make some good friends from there, but I was a little put off by how judgmental most people were initially. It was very common for both my wife and I to get a response like "Ya ain't from around here are you?" when meeting new people. It made us feel like this region of people is very close minded.

As far as place to raise a family, it's not bad, but it's sure not great. Has some perks as others have mentioned with schools, but the food scene is subpar IMO and there is not a ton of activities to do with a young family.

The youth sports scene is pretty legit from what I hear. I have not been to a baseball tournament over there, but from what I hear it is very well run.

Spent a year in Sulphur and then bought a house in Holmwood. We did enjoy Holmwood, but it was further away from things then I'd prefer.

Yeah I would imagine Holmwood is a lot more laid back and probably more pleasant people than Sulphur.

I've only ever heard this on this board.

LC is somewhat of a melting pot outside of a few families (that I doubt you interacted with) due to the transient nature of workers at the plants.

I don't get this.

Somewhat true. I was talking to my wife about this last week. So much of the focus/effort is on youth sports that "things to do" don't ever survive. The Altitude trampoline place that apparently lots of people loved, just closed. Places do open, and they try, but they always fail, which is somewhat of a paradox from a place people always say lacks "stuff for kids to do".

Just wanted to add another good school for pre-K to 8th grade is St.Margaret's Catholic school. On Enterprise Blvd. Not far from Lake Charles Memorial, where I work. Several of my coworkers send their children there.

I went there. It is not as big as ICCS, OLQH, so class sizes are smaller, which is a positive to me. Students score high on testing. Parents are very involved in the school.
