Thibodaux's public schools are no better than Houma. Thibodaux people are snotty as hell too
I got the frick out of Houma and never looked back. It will take an act of God to get me to move back to that shithole.

Live in Bourg for great schools and Bourg Supermarket French bread. Get a place on Country Drive. One of the highest points in the parish.
About a 15 minute commute to TGMC.

You're 45 min from New Orleans 20 min from some of the best hunting and fishing Louisiana has to offer.
A little over an hour from Baton Rouge
ED White and Vanderbilt are your two private options
Houma isnt bad, it could be worse

Agree. Good people, with good and trashy Areas. I spent a few years there growing up (St. Bernadette alum), and I turned out OT rich, so there’s that!
Some of the best fishing in the world within 20 minutes. Economy does ebb and flow with Oil prices.

Doesn’t sound too bad other than heat and mosquitos, think I’ll contact the recruiter and take an interview at least

I’m a simple man, just need a paycheck and a decent house. As long as there is a target, wife will be happy. We used to live in downtown DC about 4 blocks from the WH, now in ellic, so we can adapt to anywhere

Was coming to post this exact thing. Sometimes I wonder if there are calories in the water supply.

Been here over 50 years. "Culcha" exists but not near as bad as other parts of state.
Some of the best public elementary schools in state. Also some of the worse. School districts vital before you commit on a house.
Stay away from East Houma. The best parts of East Houma could be called white trash heaven. Worse parts overrun with culcha. Intracoastal Canal is the dividing line.
Area around Summerfield, Sugar Mill Point, etc a great place to live. Check school districts.
Sales tax some of highest in state. Local politicians a joke but this is Louisiana so par for the course.
If buying a home, check flood insurance rates. Outside of Houma on road to Thibodaux, Hwy 311, a lot of nice subdivisions. Traffic more a pain than a major problem. Again, school districts.
Houma catches shite on this board but really pretty nice for Louisiana.

You can also move to Bayou Blue if you don't want to live in a city. You would be very close to Hwy 90 and only about 10 minutes from TGMC. I believe they have good elementary schools there.

Do you not have these in Alexandria?

Posted on 1/19/18 at 1:49 pm to Epic Cajun
yeah but I’m sure it’s worse.
I’ve lived here almost a year, shreveport for 17 years and BR 13. Hat is everywhere but I hate mosquitos, I’d have to get one of those lawn systems

I go to Houma 2 or 3 times a year and that is always my first stop.
I enjoy visiting Houma. People are nice, traffic does not seem too bad. I think it is a good size city.
