I grew up there and at the time thought it was the greatest place on Earth. Then I moved away and saw other parts of the country and realized just how naive I was. Now it seems that it gets worse and worse every time I go home to visit.
Public schools are a disaster and word from family is that these days the private schools aren't that much better.
It's a fading small city/town that, like most of Louisiana, seems to take some sort of perverse pride in how shitty it has gotten and has no desire at all to improve.

Has it's good points and bad points just like every other place. Only problem I can really think of is the economy there is heavily related to the oil and gas market. When oil prices are low, the economy there suffers. Same goes for Lafayette. Good people though. Has it's trashy area just like every place does.

I feel the opposite, but to each their own. I have gone across the country for different things, school mostly, but I can't wait to be able to start a family in Houma.
