Sports can be just as important. It teaches them more than just the game.

We passed. No FRA. Has nothing to do with this post. We may move near New Roads, but will stay in BR private school. Thanks to all for input.

Well FRA is a pretty good school for a small town. The local stem academy is hurting them. Hard to compete with free. But I don't trust the local school board and suspect future trouble there. Remember this is the parish where the public school superintendent recently wanted to lower the teacher qualifications for racial reasons.

Yeah, I know, sports are a good thing, but my kid tried it when he was younger, didn't like it, so we didn't force it on him. At age 7 he could tell me things like all the gases that make up every planet's atmosphere and asked me to take him to the Houston space center, which I did, so he's pretty much a cool nerd and I'm good with that. Hopefully it'll mean more money in my pocket when he turns 18 and gets a scholarship.

And Mr Hay, I don't need any private conversations, thanks for the offer though. Nothing can take back what the previous principal did to our family or the fact that I think the logo should be on the uniforms. And sorry, but I'm not forever FRA. I'm forever the best education for my son. If he ends up with a crappy teacher at some point in the future years or I feel the school is seriously lacking in discipline, I'll pull him and put him somewhere else. I want to see the school succeed because my son loves it there, it's good for the parish and creates competition to force the public schools to become better, because a good public school is also good for the parish, and our property values.

How are athletics? We have a 7th grader cousin who will either stay at EA or go to FR. How is football and basketball? Putting out college players? Cousin is already 6 foot 1. Loves hoops. Likes the EA system but his parents moving out

I agree dinosaur. I have zero trust in the public school board. Too much small town politics. Just look at how long that brand new, nice facility, where stem is now, stayed vacant. Meanwhile the entire parish was packed into rotten temp trailers at Livonia which is busting at the seams. Goes to show how much pull that little town had on the parish. I was greatly disappointed to hear Rob leave stem, but good for him. I just hope they backfill him with someone equally dedicated.

I had a best friend in HS who went there. She wasn't very bright and got knocked up her Sr. year. Seemed like a cliquey place.

I am glad to here your son is having a great experience and it sounds like he is very gifted in learning. My son graduated with a ton of dual inrolement hours as have many students before. It’s not all about sports. My child will enter college almost a sophomore. I still would encourage your family to talk to the new admins to understand all of the opinions. I mean well man. It is a great place

Thanks! I mean no harm either, I mean I am sending my son to the school after all, so I can't think it's all that bad. I do plan to approach the new principal if I ever feel the need to. I have no issues whatsoever with the elementary staff and office personnel. In fact I think they're all outstanding and work their butts off for that school. Have a good weekend!

Bonaventure?

I was at CHSPC in JR High... 85, 86, & 87. It really sucked coming from St Alphonsus after 6 years there. Very cliqueish. I have remained friends with the few I became close too & who ironically who moved to my childhood turf.

FRA will not exist in 5 years, book it. They just graduated about 50 kids, and I think the largest class they have left is around 20.

I agree with Dinosaur. The Pointe Coupee Parish public school system is notorius for screwing up anything that is of value as soon as it serves their purpose. They once closed down a nationally recognized blue ribbon elementary school as soon as it pulled enough kids out of the CHCPC and FRA. Left the kids scrambling at mid-year with few options as to where to enroll. They will probably do the same at STEM. If it is good, then it will not be there long. Just long enough to pull the other schools down, then close. The PCPSB knows exactly what they are doing. Their motives are always not what they seem to be. There are deep waters and undercurrents that a lot of people don’t realize exist at that school board. They play games and the students suffer. How many people read last week’s front page article in the newspaper where our superintendent said that at the direction of some board members their hiring focus would now be on hiring quantity rather than quality? Here they go again!
