There is a modicum of civic pride but it's not a hidden gem. It's a place you can find a house or some land for cheap and live quietly and be left alone.

It's a pretty friendly small Louisiana Town. The type of town where everyone knows everyone. There used to be old money there but they are all dying off. An hour from LC, Alexandria, and Toledo Bend. Not much in the way of jobs outside of timber, paper, retail, or Ft Polk

changed the last fittings out of a lift station before turning on the new addition to the town’s sewer system on the last job I officially worked for my dad, solidified/validated my decision to go to pilot training

I would say it is more quaint old town. There are several big festivals and railroad and a Grandfather clock museum.
I went to the clock museum to learn more about one that was given to me. The man knew a lot about clocks and has a large collection.
I drive though DeRidder a lot each year.
