Also in BR. My daughter started working about 2 years ago and made more than $10/hr at every job she's held. Minimum wage is useless, and should be abolished, as it creates an artificial expectation for entry level wages. I think she makes about $15/hr now as a HS senior.

Just reread OP post yea i wouldn’t care if she didn’t want to watch some other people’s kids for $10 an hour, thought it was your kids…

I don't have young kids, but I'd think maybe $15-20/hr for a babysitter would be the going rate. Not shitting on OP.

If it’s someone not close friends or family, absolutely $20 an hour

I'm almost 50. To me, a car battery is still $75, and a set of tires is $500, but in reality it's no longer the going rate.
Everything is way more than we expect it to be these days. I'd expect to pay the babysitter more than $10/hr.

Your daughter didn’t create inflation so I wouldn’t be mad at her.

$20 per hour is at least 5 years ago for teens doing menial work.

As in babysit FOR YOU? That's a different conversation.
"You do what you can to help the family. The family will help you.
If you cant be bothered... We can't be bothered beyond minimum care.

Only justification for being upset is if daughter needs to work, and can't find any other work for more than $10/hr.

Live in BR. My fifteen year old daughter refuses to babysit for $10/hr. I am incensed at her gaul, but yet my mom pays her much more to "clean her house", and her peers make about $20/hrs babysitting in Bocage. Am I crazy for being apoplectic about this?!
HE lives in a nearly paid off 500K house he bought for 150k, has two cars, 401K, but “apoplectic” about paying HIS daughter more than $10/hr to babysit HIS child!
The Boomer generation ladies and gents!
What an embarrassment

IIve got two 17 year olds in the house. Both work and pay for things they want.
My granddaughter takes two HS classes and three college classes. She paid for her college classes herself, and is paying for a trip to Germany later in the spring herself.
I think both make pretty close to $20/hour and with no bills other than their school expenses, they both have plenty of spending money.

Yes, you might as well be a delusional boomer, because that’s how this reads. Your daughter is correct. You’re cheap and out of touch.

You should honestly be happy that your daughter knows her worth and has a better idea of modern wages than you do. Babysitting has historically paid much better than after school/weekend jobs because it's a colossal pain in the butt.
Feeding, bathing, and changing diapers for babies/toddlers or wrangling kids to bed who act like entitled heathens when their parents leave the house is a lot of work, especially with multiple children. Not to mention giving up your Friday and Saturday nights in high school. I was VERY choosy about who I would babysit for, and my daughter is the same way. I was making $10/hour babysitting in the 90's.
A teenager can make $10/hr anywhere now.
