There SHOULD not be a jury in America that would convict the shooter in this case. I sure as hell wouldn’t.

But you just never know these days.

Depends on the race of the victim/shooter and race of the jury. 1000%

horseshite arrest. Everyone knows NOPD isn’t going to show up in time, if at all, to capture that stolen car.

Hopefully Canizaro does something right and declines the charge.

Wouldn’t be an issue in St Bernard either, where this criminal was wanted. OTOH, SBSO would’ve appeared in 30 seconds to capture the guy while NOPD isn’t coming at all.

Sounds like a shitty law. Don’t steal someone’s car and you won’t get shot.

call the cops to do their job and you won't be arrested for shooting someone.

Car thieves being shot doesn't bother me.

Reminds me of a case in NO about 30 years ago. Riverbend/Carrollton area, I don't remember what street. Homeowner lived on a corner and there was no off street parking. His car, which had been broken into multiple times, was parked on the side street. Owner gets up to pee during the night and looks out of his bathroom window. Some a-hole is breaking into his car again. Owner gets his crack barrel .410 and fires a slug through the window screen at a range of about 25'. Perp jumps up and runs ... to the corner, and collapses. Shot through the lung, he dies on the corner.

NOPD arrests the homeowner. He was ultimately charged with manslaughter, but refused a plea deal. At trial, the jury refused to convict (hung jury). The DA didn't try a retrial because he was sure the same thing would happen again.

As far as criminal charges went, the story had a happy ending. But I'm sure the home owner didn't like being arrested and liked his stay (however long) at OPP even less. These days there would be a civil suit filed by the perp's family. I'm not sure if there was then.

defense attorney Craig Mordock said there are laws in Louisiana which allow people to use deadly force against anyone intruding on their personal property. But, based on the details in court records, those laws don’t appear to apply in this case because the teenager who was shot had been in the car at a time when Johnson was not in it.

Mordock said Johnson should have called police and given them a chance to recover the vehicle for him.

“The law doesn’t allow you to just shoot someone" for being in your car, he said.

What's being reported and what this guy said don't seem to agree with each other.

And then have to pay to get the car out of the impound and any repairs that are needed.

Not only should it allow for this, but you should get a percentage of the tax money you save citizens defending and then housing the POS.
