"Policy in every vehicle wreck?" So, if a tree falls on my car as I am driving by, I'm going to get a "reckless operation" ticket?? Tornado blows my car off the road and wrecks it? Somebody shoots me while I'm driving?
Dude, you swerve off the road from lack of sleep or whatever and you are getting a ticket. Insurance companies, the city, state, the car manufacturer, seat belts, tires etc all are involved in this the moment the wreck happened. It's just procedure.
It's just a ticket. They aren't charging him with vehicular manslaughter. Jeeze.

In the threads about this wreck, why does everyone assume "Andrew" is a girl?

Step on his head while he's drowning why don't ya...

The entire thing is messed up & one of the most tragic things I've heard in a while. ... The 16-year-old never should've been driving with that many people at night, particularly when there were 2 other adults in the vehicle who could've taken turns. The teenager could've driven in the daytime, when not sleepy, to gain experience on the interstate. ... Charging him with anything is an atrocity & Idgaf what the law is or that it's only a ticket. Not the point. What he will have to go through & live with for the rest of his life is beyond comprehension for most. He will "punish" himself, daily, for the rest of his life.

Sad, but Darwinism.
Yeah - don't think that applies to 4 year olds, asshat

It's a fricking ticket
So it doesn't matter to you if police actually think he was driving recklessly? That's a slippery path to go down, advocating for people to be charged with stuff they aren't suspected of.

Didn't he fall asleep at the wheel?

And you don't think that deserves a ticket?

What kind of car holds eight people? Had to have been a few of them sitting on someone's lap.

In this case, no. ... Why? What is the point? ...

Any suv with 3 rows can seat 8.
Two up front, three in each back row. That's 8

If that's the case lets charge him negligent homicide and lock him in Angola for the rest of his days.
Is that really the best solution here?

agree, what is the point?
Posted on 11/21/14 at 10:07 am to Arkla Missy
Regardless of whether he should've been driving or not, you cannot fall asleep at the wheel. He did and should be held accountable. Tragedy doesn't trump the law.

Huh? From what I read, the kid wrecked an SUV by veering out of his lane, overcompensating, swerving across the interstate, and rolling it over.
How is that not reckless operation?
He isn't being charged with manslaughter or anything, just a ticket.

This is how our SUV is. We have a carrier we strap on top for vacation so never an excuse for anyone not to buckle their seatbelts for lack of room.

as if killing his whole family is not hard enough. Our political system is so fricked up. Lets drag this tragedy out in court seems to be a brilliant idea!!
If getting in a wreck so badly that you kill 6 people doesn't deserve a ticket, then what does?
Yes it's sad, but just pay the ticket.

I mean they probably could have, but thought he'd been through enough and gave him just a ticket
