I have a buddy who can do all the work minus rebuilding an engine if I ever have issues on the side for a fraction(50-60%) of what BMW would cost problem is none of the work will be documented in the system like BMW does or uploaded to CarFax so the next buyer can verify the work that has been done.

That's the kind of technology that makes vehicles unnecessarily expensive. Paying for development of that technology inflates the cost of a vehicle.

I laughed way to hard at this.

Try 4 cat converters on my nissan vehicle at $962 each. That’s without labor for installation. Nissan says they should last from 80,000 to 100,000 miles. I am OC about maintenance on my vehicles and tend to keep them as long as possible. So now I have to budget $12,000 to $15,000 in the life of my vehicles for catalytic converters???!!!

So you know how you could buy 8 year old Jaguars, a $60,000 car when new, for like $8,000 at those used car lots on the side of the highway?
Yeah, that's going to be ALL car brands in the near future.
They are all doing this. All the cars are over-engineered, unnecessarily complicated and a total violation of the reliable and tried and true KISS principle.
You're likely going to see the value of vehicles built ~pre-2004 shoot up in value. The timeline of the development of the Ford F-250 diesel is a great example of this. I see more 7.3s on the road than 6.0s and 6.4s.

Funny I just talked randomly with the parts guy at BMW and he suggested now my X5 is 50,000+ and past warranty to get the extended added now. Said for an example the water pump w/o labor is damn near $800.
That’s crazy considering how cheap and Eazy Toyota’s
I’ve never argued that German cars weren’t great in the same way that dating a high maintenance woman can be a lot of fun for awhile.
My only argument is that for the same reason I would never marry a high maintenance woman I would never purchase a German car that wasn’t a Porsche.

I have a ten year old Benz that has not needed any major repairs, knock on wood.

Technology has returned this to the age of planned obsolescence. These cars will become useless in the future because their technology will be out-of-date and unfixable. One of the guys who works on my car's told me that there are some Dodge trucks that have a computerized control unit that is not available on the market. If it breaks, the truck is scrap

If enough people see this thread this could be the first 4-digit to zero thread ever.
I wouldn't be surprised if they put it in upside down.
(I know that probably not possible but it is the only generic stupid mistake I could come up with.)

My German sedan has 165k+ on the clock and it drives like a dream. Exspendy AF, but there literally is nothing else that can replace it. I’ve had $5k+ bills from my Indy. Last time around I had damn near every fluid the vehicle has...oil, hydraulic fluid, and gas...leaking from various places. Nothing major yet though...so that’s good.

Sadly, those days are going away on a lot of vehicles.

Yeah I’ve always had the reliability of the Toyota/Lexus line but have wanted an X5 for 10 years pulled the trigger on a great deal during Covid so I guess I’ll find out if I lucked out or not on maintenance.

Get that warranty or get a new vehicle. BMW’s suck... and anytime they touch it, it’s going to cost you at least $1500

I despise modern cars because of the needless complexity. I drive a 19 year-old Camry. If I want GPS or internet music I just use my phone.

Just cut out all the nonsense and marry the Porsche
