So GM has sent out a technical bulletin dealing with the water pumps on new trucks.
The frick you need a circuit board inside of a water pump?
quote:
According to the TSB, the printed circuit board inside of the water pump on affected vehicles “may have been manufactured incorrectly, potentially causing a water pump failure.”

So you can’t work on it yourself.

To save water, or some other environmental reason, I'd guess

When the time comes, they'll send a signal to disable the water pump. It'll make the roundups easier.

Blame BMW. Those German f*ckers were the first to put electric water pumps in vehicles.

I would guess it's no longer belt driven to increase gas mileage .00001 MPGs and it is now an electric pump that is turned on and off to increase gas mileage an additional .00001 MPGs

Yea, let’s put three different water pumps on your vehicle. One to pump water to the heating system, one to pump water to cool the block, and one to pump water to cool the oil. That way if one pump fails you will still have water supply to the other systems. Genius. Except that if one fails the whole system is down anyway and now you have 3 times the number of pumps to fail. That is some dumb arse over engineered bullshite.

What's the replacement/repair cost on one of those Microsoft water pumps?

It's no longer a physical pump. It resides on the Cloud.

Funny I just talked randomly with the parts guy at BMW and he suggested now my X5 is 50,000+ and past warranty to get the extended added now. Said for an example the water pump w/o labor is damn near $800.
That’s crazy considering how cheap and Eazy Toyota’s and Lexus’ are in comparison to work on.

The water pump on my 4.7 V8 Toyota/Lexus engine is a bitch. May as well do the timing belt or vise versa when your in there. Parts & fluid would be about $300 and labor would be about $600-800. On the same engine you have to take the intake manifold off to replace the starter or the smog pump that is known to fail.

We had two tractors in the shop today that both had one exhaust manifold bolt broken. So they were leaking at the broken bolts. Had to pull both manifolds off and of course half the bolts broke off in the head pulling the manifold off. So we had to tig weld the broken bolts to get them out of the head. Just the new bolts and gaskets cost $350 to replace. Each cylinder had an individual gasket but you have to change them all when you pull the manifold plus the turbo gasket. No telling what it would have cost if the dealer had to do the work.

Everything about that guy is a paradox. This place says he is a crackhead felon and slums it up with women from here. Then he claims he Iives in San Francisco, he is married and claims to have to big time white collar job. Also now drives a Land Rover.
I have no idea what to believe at this point.

Now that you say it I’ll have to retract my statement of being easy to replace because I believe that I did just that with my 4.7 4Runner 10 years ago. But a far cry from 1500-$1600 it costs to do it on my X5 is something goes wrong. Won’t be keeping it after 90,000 -100,000 I know that much.
