A 79.7 is a B. Only an a-hole would not round that up to a B.
Do you have her email. Explain it to her, maybe you can do something for extra credit to get that point.

I don't have a problem with instructors not rounding an 89.4 to an A for a student who asks but the ones who make .9s not round up their official syllabus policy are the worst.
agree.

Is that your grade with the curve.

She should not round it up. You did not get an 80&. Deal with it and move on. And if your grades such that much that you can keep TOPs then good riddance.

I normally round up if the student has regular attendance and worked hard. I've rounded an 88.5 up if I feel like the student worked hard enough for an A, but shite happened.
I've learned that there just isn't a good time to be an a-hole over something so trivial. If a student were about to lose a scholarship because of less than a point, then I would certainly welcome that information before I turned in final grades.
The way I see it, its very possible that at some point over a semester, I made a error in grading something that wasn't definitive like a test with right and wrong answers. Did I count off too much for saying "uh" in her speech the second week of her freshman year? Was I more harsh on a grammatical error because it centered around a point that I disagreed with?
Sorry, you have an asshoie professor. There are some great ones out there, though.

I ended the semester with a 79.70 C in my class and my teacher refuses to round my grade up to 0.30 points. How should I go about emailing her? Getting a B is critical for my TOPs scholarship.
As a 30 year old man, I have to say that you're stuck with it even though it does suck. Better to not beg either. I wouldn't even approach the professor about it.
When I was 20, I didn't know better. Started off the semester in a bad, bad way. Went to talk to the professor and she told me what I needed to do to get back on track. She said getting an A probably wasn't going to happen but a B was still possible.
I made a perfect score on everything for the rest of the semester. In the end, I had an 89.4.
Shot the professor an email and asked for it to be rounded up to an A. Reminded her that I started off slacking in class but turned it all around.
She responded by saying I was unethical and I was borderline for being reported to the board (dean? I don't remember). She said that I should consider it a warning for the rest of my life to not - and I quote - "cheat to be given things you did not earn."
I don't know how asking for a grade to be rounded could be considered cheating, but she definitely scared the shite out of me.

How many points from the whole semester account for that .3? Discuss it from that perspective if there were some subjective grading during the course. Bring up an old assignment and argue for that extra 2 points.
Of anything, they might appreciate the new angle.

Should have just studied?

yours was probably the 20th email in a row she opened asking the same thing and she decided that she had enough.

Probably.
But her response was still crappy. Especially since she and I had a good relationship. I met with her often throughout the semester. Took a vested interest in the course material. Participated in class. Yes, it took a few weeks to get on the right track, but I was a good success story and I was asking for .1 points. She did round up. So calling me a cheater and unethical was a bit overboard.

Show her your dick so she feels sorry and gives you extra points

So on the syllabus, do you write 80-90% is a B, or do you write 80.0-90.0% is a B?
Semantics, but you'd lose in court

Well, 79.70 is below 80 so why do you feel entitled to a B?

use a 7 point scale in my classes, so you would need a 93 to get a A.
Believe it or not, but that's how a lot of school systems operate their grading scales. My high school in South Carolina used this system as well.
100-93= A
92-85=B
84-77=C
76-70 (sometimes 69.5)=D
68 and below=F
bullshite, I know.

Speak to the dean or ask what you can do for extra credit. I love how the idiots come out of the woodworks this time of year

I was banging a speech teacher before she was my speech teacher. I showed up, and saw it was her, and she told me to get another teacher. I didn't, and continued nailing her throughout the semester. Didn't help one bit because I got a damn C in the class

Maybe you should have studied a little harder. You're not in high school anymore. What you get is what you get.

That being said, not getting Those 0.3 points is crappy.
