Wrong. Guy had a full size golden retriever on a flight I was on a few months ago. I'm not a fan of it, but it is definitely a thing.

While there are no weight or breed limitations for pets, they must travel in either a hard-sided or soft-sided carrier. This carrier must fit under the seat in front of you or you cannot fly with your pet.

United has this on their site though, which pretty much limits it to wiener dogs and the like

I was on a flight years ago and someone had a dog in a crate in the cabin. I was about 10 rows behind and I could smell the dog. I didn't care because I have dogs but there were a few people complaining. The dog was a show dog so it wasn't like a dirty dog. It was probably nervous and expressing it's anal glands..

Sat in delta one next to a medium doodle type a few weeks ago. The lady was in a single lay down seat by the window and the dog sat at her feet. It didn’t have its own. 11 hour flight that was diverted and then took off again for the original destination. All in all 15 hours and this dog was amazing. Didn’t hear a peep. Roamed aisle a little when we were diverted and I think the lady even took it up to near bathrooms to use puppy pad a couple of times. It was a pleasure to sit next to her and I told her as much. I mean who doesn’t want to sit next to a sweet well trained dog? Also never let your dog fly as cargo.

In a spin-off of the thread, TSA were training 3 new dogs last week at MSY. Less than 1 yo labs or so. The first 2 didn’t pay much attention but the third was very affectionate as he walked the seating area with their handlers. They warn you not to pet them, but when a dog barrels under my legs and all over me, I’m going to play with him.

Gotcha. I don't remember which airline I was flying, seems like it was Delta, but he damn sure had that big arse retriever sitting on the floor if front of him. This was in first class, not sure if that makes any difference at all.

I run a lot in Cities but I would not run on Airline with or without a dog.

I'd take sitting next to a dog over a fatty. Hell, I might even take it over a skinny person. At least you know they won't be playing games with the arm rest.

I'd pay extra to get to sit with dogs over people.

Yeah I have some friends who actually just have to buy a seat for there dog and but will sometimes buy the whole 3seat row so it’s just the two of them and no one gets all bent out of shape. Though I think last time he did someone caused a fuss and he had to wait till next flight.

I think the dogs I’m referencing are service dogs though

Yes but call the airline so they can place the notification on your ticket

If I'm going somewhere for awhile I'm bringing my dog. I've taken my dog to different states and countries. Sometimes I buy the extra seat and sometimes it just sits on my lap.

I would rather sit near a trained animal at any point or duration of a flight then a fat arse leaking into my seat and making a mess of their trail mix elbowing me as they try and get a chip that fell into there belly rolls not to mention how many times a fat person generally needs to go take a piss or shite during a flight… or deal with a screaming child throwing up and or kicking the seat in front or behind them and watch the parents put on headphones and act like there child is doing nothing wrong...

Large to medium breed dogs are better then most humans I have been around during any type of travel boat, flight, bus, train, car, ride.

I'd welcome a dog vs some of the people I have flown next to.
