Take it to the dealership. At our store we will read the codes for free as do many dealerships nowdays.

Many of you might be surprised how many calls a day dealerships get from the jack leg repair centers asking us to help defining a code or asking us to provide a diagnostic chart to them b/C they have no idea where to start. And no, we will not give the jack leg auto center any information....well...the CORRECT information anyway. So usually the jack leg repair center will guess which in turn costs you more money because of their lack of knowledge.

Do NOT go to Firestone on Camp. I live within walking distance and took my car in because of the convenience. Not so convenient when you end up taking it somewhere else after they don't fix it correctly.

Much of a difference? My check engine light came on today and want to have it checked out. Unfortunately, I'm busy as shite this week and it would take at least an hour to bring it to the dealership and firestone is right by my office. (Lunch isn't an option as I have lunch meetings every day this week).

First, go to an auto store that will read the codes for you - don't worry, its a free service that all do. That will give you a starting point. Forget both Firestone and the stealership. Find the best, most reputable small service place you can...that is, if you are incapable of turning a wrench.

Not a knock against this Firestone but it was the worst tires I had ever had on a car. I picked them out so not their fault.

Gonna have to disagree on that one. Have had Firestone Destination A/Ts on my Tacoma for three years now - never a complaint, great tread wear, quiet, and are excellent in all conditions.

There is a reason they are the number one tire.

Firestone sucks.

They upsell everything. Wife went there for inspection. Brakes were too slow to stop. They were changed 3 months prior. They did send my wife home with a $380 estimate.

I went to brake place and saw same guy he just laughed. Gave us another copy of parts and service performed. Then went back. Took 30 more minutes to get my sticker.

This is the firestone on highway 99 near kingsland for those in Katy. frick that place.

Firestone does maintenance on our vehicles at work and I wouldn't trust them with my vehicle.

All I know about Firestone is that I took my truck to one when the engine light was on.. They diagnosed the problem and gave me a quote.

It wasn't an immediate problem so I took it somewhere else to get fixed. Got it done for about a 10th of their estimate.

Same thing happened to me. Took my truck to Firestone because it is 2 blocks from my office, quote was $2500. Took it to Allied which is closer to my house, quote was $850 for the exact same work. frick Firestone.

I needed an oil change in a hurry right before a road trip so I went to Firestone on Florida Blvd. and expected it to be there an hour. I finally got a call 3 hours later that it was ready. I was a little perturbed but didn't think much of it... until I saw the quote for every repair that could possibly be made to my truck. Some $2,000 worth of shite. They took an extra two hours going over every inch of the truck. Morons.

Even worse was how bad the alleged repairs would have been. I had some bald-ish rear tires (35" BFG All Terrain). They quoted me for two new tires - Firestone Wilderness in the factory size.

This is what the dealers do too. I had a recall on my truck and I got the same dollar quote once they completed the recall work....must be SOP on the dollar amounts They wanted $400 to do the front brakes; I did it myself for $150.

Everyone needs to look for a good/honest mechanic. I know they're difficult to find but most everyone will need one eventually. Start with Angie's list; don't end there just start there.
