I have a good friend. been to about every Country in the World.... Several times.
He just retired with a boat load of money and he told me he's never leaving Town again.
Most folks retire and all they do is travel... some folks have had enough.

I spend about 8 nights a month in hotels for work.

Averaged 150 flight segments for 9 of the last 10 years (thanks COVID). Depends on what you do and how long you are gone. Status makes life better so always use the same airline.

What is too much travel vs just enough? Also, at what point do you decide it’s time to move on from job bc of travel
Missed alot. Looking back wished I could have figured out a way to spend more time with my girls early.

I used to be a road warrior, gone 4 days a week. I loved it. But I’ve since had kids, and I’m now getting roped into being gone for about 2 nights and 3 days, two weeks per month here for the coming few years. I’m not very happy about it. I can’t imagine not seeing my kids every day. See how it goes.

Been doing it for 35 years. I do not enjoy traveling any longer. With so many companies and clients now on video conferencing, actually needing to travel is not as often a requirement. That is fine by me. Next week I'm flying out and back to each of San Francisco, then San Diego and back, and then Los Angeles and back over the course of the next three weeks. Before Covid, I would fly to an area for a warranted meeting, then add a few days and go visit with accounts. Now, when I travel, it's just for a meeting or event, only those few things that are suddenly, or by plan, important enough to have to travel.
And if I were a younger man, I might still do that, only if for nothing other than for the unique adventure you make of it, right? I've had lots more fun traveling and meeting people than most people do, but now, everybody is telecommuting. You can't get people together anymore except at trade shows. Everybody is working from home, now. Used to be you could take out a low-level exec for lunch, help them to win some business, and along the way they intro you to the guys you really want to get to know; a Director, a Global VP of Global Sales, Senior Director of Engineering, the CTO, or President. The C-Level guys. These are the guys to get to in order to enjoy the lavish and extravagant dinners and golf outings. Those guys in the right accounts can bring business your way and you can help them win deals. I have enjoyed reaping the rewards of selling and building business relationships, and I still do, but damn it, it's just so hard to get people out of their homes now.
Because people are more reluctant to leave home for a meeting or dinner, I hate to travel now. It's not as rewarding and fun as it used to be, like when my bar tab one night at a trade show was in mid five-figures, and I knew when I expensed it that it would fly through to accounting for me to get reimbursed because the two guys that needed to approve my expense report were both at that party, tongue deep in the mouths of women who amazingly were not their wives.
Good times? Yes. Many.

All depends. My dad had the best job in the world (imo) when I was a kid. Took 20-30 clients around European cities for Amex dream vacations every week and wrote brochures on what they loved the most. Had a black card and got to see every city in Europe while getting paid to do it and write about it. He was gone 2-3 weeks a month tho till I was 7. I would give anything to have that job not having any kids.

See that is something you can’t miss. Tell your employer to F off on that

I flew 87 flights last year and, to me, it wasn't enough

As much as I traveled at one point in my career, I miss some of it now that I don’t.
