Sprint and T-Mobile agreed to merge, in a deal that values Sprint at $26.5 billion.
The new company will have two headquarters in Washington state and Kansas and will be led by T-Mobile's John Legere.
The deal still faces regulatory scrutiny by the Trump administration.

Sprint and T-Mobile have sealed a blockbuster merger agreement, producing a telecom behemoth that values the combined company at $146 billion, the two carriers announced on Sunday.
Both Sprint and T-Mobile have lagged behind Verizon and AT&T, the two largest wireless companies, and the proposed deal keeps the new company entrenched at number three. The proposed all-stock deal values Sprint at about $59 billion and the combined company at $146 billion, including debt. Without debt, the deal values Sprint at $26.5 billion.
The new company — which is touting an ability to create a large scale 5G network and thousands of U.S. jobs — will preserve T-Mobile's name, and will have dual headquarters in Bellevue, Washington, and Overland Park, Kansas. John Legere, T-Mobile's CEO, will retain the top job in the newly formed carrier.

This was to supposed to happen back in October of last year.
TMO is legit trying to push the boundaries in 5G. I would definitely consider them as a carrier in the future.

Me too. I hope their plans are cheaper because I’d love to tell ATT to go frick themselves.
Anyone in SELA with ATT who was trying to get rescued or rescue others during the 2016 flood who isn’t fed up with them is pathetic.

Verizon is already building 5G.
I lile this merger though, hope TMO and Sprint knock AT&T down to third. Optimistic for sure.

Not at the rate TMO is. TMO bought 600 MHz and acquired Sprint for their 2.5G / GSM infrastructure for a reason.
edit: Verizon is extremely meticulous in network building. Which I really can't fault them for. TMO is playing catch up right now. However seeing first hand the timeline for network rollout in TMO, they have a really really sound plan moving forward.

Seeing how Verizon is buying up all these "little" companies that already have infrastructure built. I think Verizon rolls out with 5G first.

Without saying too much I can definitely say that commercial rollouts have begun in Mid/Major markets and we are consistently being asked to build new configurations in the lab and test software against so we can get GA's (General Approvals). I kid you not I have a folder called continuous delivery and it's like a gift that keeps on giving right now. Luckily I have a lot of this stuff automated on scripts and can focus primarily on building physically sites in the lab.

AT&T's plan for at least the last 25 years has been to watch what other carriers are doing, and if their plans are popular enough to drag people away from AT&T, match those plans. But at the same time don't publicize the plans to existing AT&T customers so they can be charged more.

The second part is pretty much what all carriers have been doing as long as I can remember. Same with Cable and Internet companies. Offer sweet deals to get people to subscribe, but not carry it over to existing customers. For cable companies, do the same but have a 12 month deadline on it and the price jumps and not offer the same deal you had before to keep you. For cellular, you could get better deals jumping around unless you wanted to be grandfathered into unlimited data, in which you had to stay with who you had.

This is why I stayed with Sprint. Their coverage is absolutely dog shite but I have used almost 85GBs since January 1st.

People bash T-Mobile, but AT&T nor Verizon have very good service at my house. Since I don't have a landline, T-Mobile was my last option and I have been nothing but pleased with their service and coverage. Data speeds do lag sometimes, but otherwise can't tell a difference from when I had att

With the 800mhz spectrum TMobile just won in auction recently coupled with sprints 2.5mhz spectrum, they will easily compete with Verizon.... That's assuming this merger gets approved.. Still has to go through that process..
On a side note, active immediately, Sprint customers can roam on T-Mobile towers and that's for the next 4 years even if this merger doesn't happen..(read that on Reddit and then seen a tweet from T-Mobile about that)
