for the 10-11 miles that I drove on the interstate, I passed 2 cars and 1 18 wheeler.

I-10 is dry. I slowed down to about 10 on the overpasses, but other than that, it looks ok.

The overpasses that are closed are solid white.

The worst part are the bridges over creeks down those back roads. The ice is thick on them and will take a lot to melt them.

exactly

you don't realize how many bridges we have here until we get weather like this. all it takes is a slight mistake on one of those bad boys and it's a wreck

Maybe to prevent what happened in Atlanta and other areas, where schools weren't closed and kids ended up on the road for hours. Some kids spent the night in daycare centers and schools.

n Atlanta, seven students were still making their way home on a school bus at 5:30 a.m. ET Wednesday morning -- a full 16 hours after school let out and they got on.

I would be irate. I would track the bus down and walk to find them if I had to. No excuse whatsoever for that.

why?
Better safe than sorry. Life isn't going to shut down because kids miss a day of school or people miss a half day/full day of work today.

You are so right... I had to bring my gf to work this morning for 5:30... left the house at 4:30 because I wasn't going to drive faster than 30mph... Got to Airline in Prarieville and right in front of Wal Mart they had a DOTD truck flipped over on it's side that what supposed to be salting roads... No one was even on the roads and this guy flipped the truck... I damn near have brand new tires and I still was sliding a bit going 20 to 25 mph...
