thinking of trading in my full sized truck for a small car that gets good gas mileage in an attempt to be financially responsible

Thinking the financially responsible thing might be to move to new Orleans.... unless you have a family.

The new prius gets like 51 on the highway... the accord and Camry and optimal get like 36

I'm actually doing this right now. Getting 9-11mpg and about to get 25-28. I'm literally going to pay my note with the money I save in gas.

Looking at a few different cars. I'll be pimping one in the next 2 weeks.

keep the truck if you use it and buy a used small car for the commute

It's not really the drive. That's not so bad. It's the humans, their Irrational, erratic, and super aggressive or completely inconsiderate disconnected driving, and the wrecks that come as a result of those same humans.

I do it every day. It sucks. For the commute I have a Chevy Cruze ECO. 42 MPG at 78 mph. It saves tons in gas $$. That being said I have put 48000 miles in the last year.

So yes I do regret it but I cant give up 120K I am not qualified to do anything else lol.

I've been driving 170 miles trip for about 10-12 years. I have been known to drive to Houston and back the same day quite a few times a year. I put about 55k-60k mile a year on my trucks, the reason why I get a new truck ever 2 years or so.

It's actually not that bad when you dont have to punch a clock and and work for yourself

THIS.

If you can't spring for an A6 TDI.
Would not touch. Maintenances on Audi's/VW are horrendous.

Ditto on the rest saying keep the truck and get something else cheap to drive to work. You just simply don't know how much you "NEED" a truck until you have had one and then you give it up.

I have done it both ways. I had a truck, gave it up to get a car and regreted it severly. Now, I have both.

I will say that I never had a payment on two vehicles at once. I got one paid for and then bought the second. I actually saved up and paid cash for the work car. It was fairly cheap and still gets over 30 mpg. Your choices are dependant on your finaces.

I used to drive 100-300mi/day and didn't have a problem with it. Of course it helped that I never hit traffic though

I went from an F-150 to a G35...not much difference in mpg.

Traded that in last year and got a Chevy Cruze.
great little commuter. get 40mpg on the causeway compared to the 20mpg I got in the g35.

has a pretty good ride for a go cart, Bluetooth, hands free, phone integration.

I will put about 20k - 30k on it a year
