Been on Cymbalta for almost two years, for like 18 months everything was great and I was almost off of it. Had some depression flare up again about 4 and a half months ago and have yo-yod up and down every three weeks or so since. Been moved up in dose twice but still in the same pattern. Doc said if it happened again we would probably switch meds. I know coming off them can be hard but what about switching. Anybody had any really good or bad experiences?

I got on Vyvanse for a year, during and after divorce. Got off. Was fine, lost job and went thru a lot of stress, got back on. I hate depending on it, but its a reality. Like high blood pressure or something.....

Withdrawal is not nearly as common as people make it out to be. Most people don’t feel any side effects or withdrawal when changing medications.

Depending on your specific symptoms that are worsening, you may be a candidate for augmenting Cymbalta. Just to get the depressive episode resolved and then you can go back to Cymbalta monotherapy.

Trust your doc. You have been well for quite a while under his/her care.

Vyvanse was prescribed to you as an antidepressant?

Seeing a new doc now. When I first got better I thought it was just a one time fluke thing so I quit going. Part of me wants to just try getting totally off and see what happens but that scares me too. It has helped with my anxiety which was my original problem but now it’s mild depressive episodes where I just don’t feel quite right and have trouble thinking about anything other than how I’m feeling and experiencing joy like I know I should be.

Those aren't meant for long term use due to severe withdraw symptoms and new evidence suggest they increase your chance of alzheimer's disease

Been on them for 7 years and I’ve never felt better. You aren’t meant to take 5 bars of xanax a day long term. 1mg of klonopin twice a day ain’t gonna hurt.

ETA: I’m not a doctor

When you come off Cymbalta, pay attention to your mood and anxiety and see if you feel better at any point in the taper.

It could also be that you are on too high of a dose and it’s making you melancholy and/or anhedonic.

Stop taking the klonopin for two days and tell me how you feel

I have gone weeks without taking it. It’s aboalutely nothing compared to opiate withdrawals. You might get a quick jolt or something but 2mg of klonopin a day isn’t gonna cause you drop into a seizure during withdrawal. I’m sorry it’s just not. Do you drink?

Yeah I had a terrible experience. Tried to cold turkey Wellbutrin/Prozac. I wanted to see if I could go without them and was having trouble orgasming on Prozac. Went off them. So stressed my hair started falling out. Made it around 3 months before I said I can’t do this. Went back on the Wellbutrin and I’ve been fine since. I have ups and downs still but I’d rather feel like a human with slight melancholy than not a human at all

Yea that’s kinda where I’m stuck, what I’ve been dealing with is manageable but not ideal. I’m worried about screwing up manageable and getting to some worse place.

6 years ago or so, my doc tried me on any number of things. Either they didn't work, or made me feel weird, or I had an allergic reaction (Wellbutrin). Cymbalta caused chest pains on Day 2 and I thought I was having a heart attack.

Switched to Pristiq 50mg and life has been smooth sailing ever since. Got off it last year and stayed off for 14 months. Back on and feeling good.

I know, TMI.

I take 10 mg of lexapro. Very low dose. I switched from 20 nearly 8 years ago. It was not terrible.

I know many on Cymbalta. And they are on high doses and come off and they are damn near suicidal. As far as switching...dunno. I would assume it might be one bad week but that would be it.

Get a hobby and find joy in life outside of a pill.
